FR often acts as a conservative echo chamber. It is obvious that many conservative pundits and hosts visit the site. To that end I think this will be helpful to get some quotes into the Zeitgeist.
There are many famous quotes of those who fought Appeasement in the 1930's, but I think it is far more telling to read the quotes of the Appeasers themselves, because it is only then that you realize that appeasement was not a dirty word forced on them, but rather something they proudly wore.
These words also so closely mirror the mouthings of modern Democrats that even recent graduates of our public education mills will be struck by them.
I do not have time to do the research to, but I know that my fellow Freepers can quickly make this a long list.
Remember, only list quotes of the appeasers, not condemning appeasement.
I'll start: We should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit of collaboration and good will. I cannot believe that such a program would be rejected by the people of this country, even if it does mean the establishment of personal contact with the dictators.
-Neville Chamberlain
Appeasers seem to think that they are smarter than most; That’s why if only THEY can talk, these ‘evildoers’ will listen.
-They are just THAT compelling and wise that they can change the hearts of these thugs.
Anyway, Churchill had just stepped down and Chamberlain popped up and dismissively retorted, Well, to listen to Mr. Churchill, you'd think that Hitler wanted to kill every Jew in Europe." That brought on a general din of laughter throughout the House of Commons.
“I, James Earl Carter, Jr. do solemnly swear that I will safely execute the office of the president of the United States and will, to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God.”
-Jimmy Carter 1977
Appeasement is feeding the dragon hoping he will eat you last. - Winston Churchill
“Peace is generally good in itself, but it is never the highest good unless it comes as the handmaid of righteousness;and it becomes a very evil thing if it serves merely as a mask for cowardice and sloth, or as an instrument to further the ened of despotism or anarchy” President Theodore Roosevelt, Speech on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1910
“We Must always be wary of those who with sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal preach “ism” of Appeasement.
We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clipe the wings of the Ameerican eagle in order to feather their own nest. “
Franklin D. Roosevelt 1941
Appeasers think that all bad actions are based upon valid grievances, and thus if the bad actor is appeased, the bad actions will cease. That is their current position concerning Muslim grievances.
They never understand that bad people contrive false grievances as a means of motivating their followers and justifying their lust for dominion.
Hitler openly laughed at the Appeasers idiocy, and even joked about how outrages some of his new grievances had to become when they agreed to roll over to his original grievances.
The methodology I use with Libs to demonstrate this is to demand their wallet. They say, "No." to which I say they are stubbornly refusing to negotiate. They state that it is their wallet and that I have no right to it. I respond that they are setting preconditions for our negotiations and that its making me angry and more likely to just take the wallet. This is a fun game of real world.
“Eupropeans who remember history understand better than most that there is no security , no safety , in the aspeasement of evil. “ President Ronald Reagan April 14,1986
You have to get the quote right. He said crocodile, not dragon ;-)
“Pacifists are among the most immoral of men. They make no distinction between aggression and defense. Therefore, pacifism is one of the greatest allies an aggressor can have!”
- Patrick Henry
