Too peaceful is the protest in Tibet?
NYT ^ | Liangliang

Posted on 05/18/2008 4:11:08 AM PDT by nutspea

I do not know if this article suit to be posted here, but I just want to speak something.

Today when I went to NYT and an review attracted my attention, title "fed up with peace" (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/18/opinion/18kristof.html). This article frightens me. There it covered a monk who claimed that he( Dalai Lama) has been too peaceful over the China, and they should take some actions more violent, especially when he is gone. It depicts that this impatience seems widespread among young Tibetans , and remarks that the Dalai Lama should return Tibet as a spiritual leader and own more rights. Most important, it also observes, that China government should stop sending Han migrants to all Tibetan areas, to preserve their Tibetan character.

After finished reading I think there is a need to leave comments. To prevent wasting the time, I just want to ask the author one question, that is: You call for more rights to Tibet, but did you ever ask yourself such a question that to whom is this freedom belong? To judge the affairs in Tibet one must consult the history instead of vainly murmuring about the present. Don't you think it's weird that in the process of "free Tibet" movement only several monks and oversea persons stand up, instead of masses of Tibetans? After informed yourself with the past history of serfs in Tibet when ruled by these Lamas, could you tell me to whom is this freedom would be given if the Tibet is once again ruled by monks?

About the last remark of migrants, it makes me a little confused that as I can remember American always support culture diversity and communication. One thought in your head and another in mine, but if we make changes there go more than two. The same, the collision of culture will result more thoughts and help both the Han people and Tibetans, isn't it? Does it benifit the Tibetans more by isolating them?

Why doesn’t your country just stop the torture of the people of Tibet & free Tibet? They WANT TO BE FREE of China!!!!!! 1,how naive you are! why not let "the Confederate States of North America" go in 1860? 600,000+ people in USA died to stop "the Confederate States of North America" break away from USA. As I know, most of citizens in ""the Confederate States of North America" agreeed to get independent by voting. why not free ""the Confederate States of North America"? 2,Toture? lynch may exist in China, just it exists in USA.but Torture.....if you mean lynch were equal to torture, then touture would be indeed exist in CHina, just as it exists in USA's Jails...

why not let "the Confederate States of North America" go in 1860?

We were all part of one country from our beginning unlike Tibet which was separate from the beginning.

600,000+ people in USA died to stop "the Confederate States of North America" break away from USA.

Your lousy education is showing again. That was the total number killed. Half of them died fighting to break away.

As I know, most of citizens in ""the Confederate States of North America" agreeed to get independent by voting.

No. There was never a vote. You are misinformed. Monkey in a cage eating what master gives you.

Toture? lynch may exist in China, just it exists in USA.but Torture.....if you mean lynch were equal to torture, then touture would be indeed exist in CHina, just as it exists in USA's Jails...

No, official chinese troops commit the torture in prisons on monks, nuns and other Tibetans. Hundreds have escaped and testified to this.

LOL No doubt. But most of the timber has been stripped. I’m sure he knows about the strategic value of Tibet to threaten India.

What happened to all the timber? Did the Tibetans cut it all down? I wonder how much of it took a trip on that railroad the Chinese built.

If they can control the water resources of the Tibetan Plateau, the Chinese can divert a critical supply of fresh water for India to China. More.

The Chinese sure did strip the timber in Tibet. They have also stripped a lot of the mineral resources already. The money isn’t going to Tibetans or to Tibetan infrastructure. I have heard of the water diversion projects. No benefit to Tibet.

how bind and ignorant you are to China!

China has forbidden stripping domestic forest since the flood happened in 1998.

All timber/wood China is using are imported from other countries.

The glaciers in the Himalaya Plateau provide fresh water for India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Burma, in addition to China.

The Chinese, who have already polluted 70% of their own rivers want control of that area, and the water that goes with it. The Tibetans are just in the way.

From the article you linked.

However, recent studies – including several by the Chinese Academy of Sciences – have documented a host of serious environmental challenges to the quantity and quality of Tibet’s freshwater reserves, most of them caused by industrial activities. Deforestation has led to large-scale erosion and siltation. Mining, manufacturing, and other human activities are producing record levels of air and water pollution in Tibet. Together, these factors portend future water scarcity that could add to the region’s volatility.

Not satisfied with crapping in their own rice bowls the Chinese are turning Tibet into an open sewer too. Which, ironically, runs right down into China so once again they crap in their own rice bowl. Unfortunately for India and the rest of SE Asia much of their water also flows out of Tibet. Perhaps they will get tired of China squatting in everybody's well.

so,600,000 is bad.300,000 is acceptable, isn’t it?

No. There was never a vote. You are misinformed. Monkey in a cage eating what master gives you.

well, it was the senates and representatives from South that elected the new president of “the confederate of America” and declare independence.

but those senates and representatives from south were all elected by votes, weren’t they?

No, official chinese troops commit the torture in prisons on monks, nuns and other Tibetans. Hundreds have escaped and testified to this.

how about the torture by US solders in Iraq jail? I still remember the name of the weman soilder..is her name England?

there are indeed tortures in CHina police station, just as it exists in USA. but such tortures are lynchs ,not official policy. Furthermore, such lynches are not special to Tibetan, but also to any ethnics.

How much money per citizen has he Chinese government spend building infrastructure in Tibet compared to what it’s spend in China?

CHina is to invest 100+ billion RMB(about 17 billion USD) on infrastructures in Tibet in the next five years. Tibet has a polulation of only about 2.5 million.

Frankly speaking, without the subsidy from Beijing, Tibet would be poorer than black Africa.

Why do the say that? Does the school try to teach them that their religious beliefs are wrong?

rediculous! education is the natural enemy to supersition and the blind faith to monks.
that is why monks resent schools so much.
school is the symbol of civilization and modernization
So,burning school is the common hobby to all anti-modernizaiton guys.
Mulla in some Muslim countries also do so with modern schools .CHinese boxer did so in 1900 or so....now it is turn of Tibetan monks.

from the begining, there were only 13 colonies sepatate with each other.

No. The Colonies preceded the founding of the United States. When the Civil War occurred they were all states of one United States government. Your education is really pathetic.

so,600,000 is bad.300,000 is acceptable, isn’t it?

You're changing the subject. We weren't talking about what number of dead was acceptable. You were saying how many died to prevent a break up of the country. Didn't the British teach you anything about debate?

how about the torture by US solders in Iraq jail? I still remember the name of the weman soilder..is her name England?

Here is the difference that everybody knows; in Tibet it is approved that Tibetans are tortured in prison. In Iraq our soldiers were arrested and prosecuted and are now in jail. It is also a little different that PLA soldiers beat nuns and monks and shock them with electricity on their private parts. The terrorists in Iraq had panties put on their heads. This shows how immoral and unethical your mind is to compare the two. Your words will help the world see the Chinese as evil and dishonest.

And the siltation. I wonder how much siltation of the Three Gorges Dam is due to ignorant forestry practices on the Tibetan plateau.

You really show how little you know with that. I am a Tibetan Buddhist and have been for ten years. We do not practice superstition or faith blind or otherwise. The Buddha teaches that actions have consequences. Something the Chinese are blind to. Go back to the kitchen god on your refrigerator and apologize for insulting superstition.

I apologize if there is any offence..

I was a bank manager of ICBC,which now is the biggest bank in the world. But now,I am a postgraduate in Guangzhou....

work for government? I indeed want a job in the government, but it is very hard to get one........

I also have lot of complaint to Chinese government, and I don’t care whether Chinese communist party is in the power or not,but I do care whether CHina can keep its unity and prosperity.

Goodness! These new breed of ChiCom trolls are really persistent (and ignorant as usual).

Do the mods know of the # of new trolls in our midst? Unlike the earlier ones, these new ones are ready to accept that they are CCP agents and are open about their intentions to spread disinformation.
