Zombie attacks might increase due to global warming, study shows

A new study by scientists has suggested that zombie attacks might increase if the current projections of global warming are realized. “If the earth gets warmer, it means longer springs, summers, and falls, and shorter winters,” said John Carpenter-Romero, Ph.D., a zombie-ologist who co-authored the study. “And shorter winters means more time for the undead to prey on the populace.”

Dr. Harrister, the other co-author, and head of Zombie Robotics at Wayward Robot, Inc., explained that cold winters typically stalled the walking dead. “It is well known that zombies can’t operate in cold weather. It freezes their brains.”

The pair calculated a 32.782412% increase in zombie attacks if CO2 increased to twice its pre-industrial rate. “Clearly, this is a very troubling result,” said Dr. Harrister, “If we don’t do something soon, the streets will be filled with blood.”

First post!

Today, that is.

Tagline renewed at least through Election Day. Please, Jesus, don’t make me keep it for a whole FOUR YEARS!

T.C. — Are you giving us up for Lent, this year??

Sion,
What’s a decent distro to use get into Linux (preferrably not at the DEEP end of the pool)? I need to get going on my next O/S to carry me beyond the eventual demise of my XP Pro install. Unless you think the crew here will appreciate the discussion, go ahead and reply via FRMail.

Good morning! I’ve given up cookies for Lent. However, I have a program of positive improvements that will likely cut into my FReeping time.

We got up this morning to find that the snake had broken out. (More quietly than her previous attempt.) Found her in my husband’s closet huddling under all the camping gear!

The snake wants to camping with you. How cute!

Now all you have to is figure out how to attach the backpack ...

The popular distros these days center around Ubuntu. I've been using Kubuntu for a couple of years now and am quite happy -- Kubuntu 6.10 was the first distro that installed without lots of questions or "issues" (SuSe 10 ran fine, but the display was so horribly messed up I was barely able to answer the questions). I am now up to 7.04, not having upgraded to 7.10. I am told:
Kubuntu (KDE desktop) is Windows-like
Ubuntu (Gnome desktop) is Mac-like
Xubuntu (XFCE desktop) runs on older HW

I locked in with KDE many years ago after my bad experience with the Gnome 1.0 desktop -- extremely buggy and released well before it was ready. I find KDE, especially today, to be very Windows-like. (That said, I am an "old" Windows user, still adjusting to the XP system foisted on me last year.)

One of the nice things is that pretty much all the apps I need either come with Kubuntu or can be downloaded and installed with the Adept package manager. (Downside: there are LOTS of apps. Upside: There are LOTS of apps.) I have installed a couple of Windows apps in the Wine Windows emulator and (to my surprise) they work!

Ubuntu & friends were intended for folks who didn't want to become techies just to use a computer, and I think they've delivered pretty well on that.

It's not perfect, though. When I try to log into blogspot.com I get some (XHTML? Java?) code that causes Firefox to freeze -- though Konquerer (combination "Windows explorer" and browser) doesn't. (This might be fixed in 7.10.) And they tossed the dysfunctional 6.10 LexMark driver in 7.04, forcing me to switch to an HP printer (which has very good support).

My uses are mainly Internet, digital photography, and office apps. It comes with support for Internet & office built-in; for photography I downloaded The GIMP -- an excellent and very powerful image editor with the world's least intuitive user interface. I had to buy a book, but it was an excellent investment.

There's a new distro based on Kubuntu that some folks are touting, called Linux Mint. It seems to be "bleeding edge" -- very up-to-date, but perhaps at the cost of stability.

You can download and burn LiveCDs of these to try them out before committing to installation.

I’m using Ubuntu right now at home. Running an Ubuntu server with LAMP for some FTP/Home shares for some of the developers here.

I just love a good tech discussion, in fact one of the coolest things about FR is all the folks who take the time to explain their various specialities to us.

By the way, “Hi, guys and bye, guys.” Just zoomin’ through.

My daughter put weights on her snake’s screen. Then they had a plastic cage made for him, and the lid locks closed.
No worries...
