During discussion on THIS thread yesterday we decided to try a gardening list and possibly a weekly gardening thread.

He seems we have many fervent gardener's amongst FReepers and so we thought this would be a great idea.

For right now I am willing to maintain the ping list, so please let me know if you would like on or off.

Freeper Garden Girl writes a monthly gardening column for her local newspaper and has graciously offered to share it with us for posting here to get our gardening threads off the ground.

Let’s have fun with this and share our experiences, good or bad, and hopefully some of us neophytes will learn something from the more experienced.

All of you participated in T-Bird’s thread about tomatoes and mentioned gardeing.

Thought some of you might be interested in this. Let me know if you would like to be on the ping list. This is just a one time ping because I snagged you name from the other thread :)

“...Turning the pages until they are tattered and dog-eared, drooling and deciding, plotting and planning, never losing hope that this year’s garden will be a bumper crop. Wondering if this or that new variety can possibly be as great as the seed catalog makes it sound, trying a little of the new seeds and mixing them with the tried and true favorites.”

Exactly what I am in the mood for right now! Thanks to both of you for a great new thing on FR!

I’m in Central Ohio in zone 6. Zone 6b according to the maps.

Although no matter how much of a close up of my area I find it is nearly impossible to tell if I’m in zone 5 or zone 6, I always figure it is 6 based on the temperature info. If you drive north from our house you seem to drive over a magical line that I call the snow line. The folks up there always get a lot more snow than we do and their kids miss a lot of school for snow days.

I’ll be behind everyone, because I’m in Zone 4/5. And I work full time at a Garden Center, so I’ll be catering to my customers more than catering to my own garden from March through June.

I can usually get it all in by the end of May. I start the vast majority of my veggie plants, herbs and flowers, so I can help in that area.

So glad to see this! :)

i’ve got pansies, lobularia, stocks, snap dragons, poppies, petunias, dianthus, violas, etc blooming.

that’s until it begins to get hot in late february, and they’ll die off.
