(Video) A Sermon From Huckabee On Faith and the Constitution
Stop The ACLU ^ | 24 Sep 07 | Jay

I haven't said much about Mike Huckabee, other than to mention his awesome slap down of Ron Paul, and his unnerving position for a National Smoking Ban....wish he'd reconsider that position. However, overall...he's a solid Conservative and damn good candidate....one I have misunderestimated in this race. He preaches a sermon on liberty, faith, and the Consitution that everyone needs to hear. He scores points with me on this one...just can't get that smoking ban to line up with the words he says here.

Is this the same Constitution which Huckabee believes authorizes Congress to impose a national smoking ban?

I understand that you’re questioning the government’s “right” to stop us from smoking.... but such a ban could conceivably fall under the heading of drugs, health hazards, etc., thereby making smoking illegal. Since (I have heard) giving up a cigarette addiction is more difficult than giving up a heroin addiction, that’s a powerful statement in favor of actually illegalizing it. True, a ban is not the same thing, but there’s no doubt that non-smokers do suffer from the addiction of smokers. And heaven knows there’s nothing good to be said for it.

Such issues as a smoking ban are a States Rights issue. The Constitution does not legally allow for decisions that can be made about our daily lives - on a state level = to be decided for us by Big Brother in Washington.

We need to reinstate our States Rights - and cut the activist judges off at the knee - the ones appointed by the Socialists in Washington. They illegally negate the peoples votes on a state level if the people didn't vote the way the Socialists wanted -

We need someone who understands the Constitution, who knows that we are a Republic - not a democracy (the public needs educating on that) - and that We the People, according to the Founding Fathers, are intelligent enough to determine most things for ourselves, at the state level. Tenth Amendment: "Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right,

If Huck doesn't understand that, he's not the man for the job.

If we don't get someone in the WH this election who understands this and will act upon it, we can kiss more and more freedoms - the Rights in the Constitution = goodbye.

The brownshirts are waiting, scissors in hand, to cut that one thin thread that our Constitution is hanging by.

Let them back in the WH - practice your salute: "Sieg Hitlery"

Put a pubbie in who wont reverse the tide of rule from above to rule of the People - we'll just be treading water...

This election is a "Paradigm Event"

"The Constitution does not legally allow for decisions that can be made about our daily lives - on a state level = to be decided for us by Big Brother in Washington."

Depends. Depends on which of two citizenship possibilities is dominant.

""Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right,"

So true. I love those words too. But for those words to be true for us, each individual must relearn how to be state citizens and get by without being US citizens except in the limited sense of 40 Cal 311.

For more details please see my tagline and follow it. If you think I'm nuts then tell me but I don't think I am.

I agree as far as the smoking ban, and he also wants to ban things like trans fats and to some degree fast food.

Ah ... but big government doesn't work like that.

If you grant them the power to ban unhealthy food, they will use it ... to ban unprofitable food.

When a government has too much power, then the health of the pocket books of the most powerful will prevail over the health of the ordinary citizen.

You are absolutely right!! And Government has no power that we don’t give them. Banning what people eat or where they use a legal product, both of which government is basing on dubious, even junk scientific studies, that do not even show what they say they show, is not a position I want in a President!
