Now, if you can’t grasp the importance of this and want to throw mudballs, that’s fine. But it would show civility and reason to do it in another thread. If you think this thread was about the posting of my images here, or anywhere, you didn’t read what I wrote. It is about what the Left is doing in the courts. You of all people understand that.

Jim, you and I can disagree on many things, but I think we both know that I have given graphics and time freely to many things “FreeRepublic”. We discussed this months ago, and you told me it was fine to post a synopsis of what has occurred. Please, can we discuss what the left is doing in the courts to take away our freedom?

Registered...I have always loved your stuff. I have no idea why you and JimRob are at odds (I generally don’t pay attention to FR pissing contests), but I do have a couple of comments.

First, if components of the parody are protected by copyright then, as much as I hate to say it, you had no right to use the components in your work.

Second, since you have decreed that your work not be posted on FR, it seems a bit hypocritical to complain on FR about being sued for using material copyrighted by someone else in your publicly published work (even if it was for only 2 hours).

In other words, you appear to be complaining about being sued for doing something very similar to what you prohibited FR from doing. I know the comparison is not exact, but I’m talking spirit, not letter, of the law.

Fair Use under copyright law allows it, as it allows snippets of published copyright work to be published here. However, in this case, it didn't even get that far. It was tossed for other reasons, like me (A Michigan resident) being sued in a NY court by a CA resident.

I understand what you are saying. To my knowledge Fair Use gains a footing when the piece in question is used for non-commercial purposes and/or education and public discussion. I used to believe as you, however, I don't believe it protects FR or even the members that post here.

It is an incorrect summation. You are missing the point. My images have been posted here freely for years and years, some have even been used by members here for fundraising or even additional income. The point here isn't really about the images, it's that you or I can be sued ANYWHERE for ANY reason by someone on the Left that wants to shut you up.
