I thank each of you for responding to my article & expressing your opinions on immigration. However, some of you appear to have forgotten that EVERYONE has an opinion, and you cannot please everyone. I have received very positive comments from Catholics & those of other Faiths. We live in a free country, and each person is allowed to express his or her opinions as long as they don't slander or personally attack others who do not share their beliefs.
Along with a number of Catholic bishops, I have expressed my concerns that bigotry is being practiced by some of those who are pushing for "enforcement" of our immigration laws. It is easy to be judgmental, but difficult to be a true Christian, and truly practice your faith. You must remember that we are a nation of immigrants, and not all came to this country legally. Even some of our ancestors may not have entered this country legally.
I have my beliefs and you have yours. I see a great deal of good in Mexican Americans, and the people of Mexico. Many Americans are very selfish & spoiled. Many Americans fail to see that breaking God's Laws is far, far more grave than breaking a man-made law. If you lived in a country that offered few opportunities for you to support your family, you would also want to seek citizenship in the United States. Express your opinions, but do so in a dignified & fair manner. Thank you.

It’s been handled.
Thanks.

I am a practicing Catholic. He does echo elements of the American Catholic church, starting with the Jesuits and the Maryknolls.
the catholic church only wants them because they are prolific in their birthrates. Most Americans these days control the amount of children they have mostly for financial reasons. We are paying for all of them to have children. They get everything paid for with our tax dollars, and we get nothing in return except for more taxes to pay for more of their expenses.
I have no use for the catholic church for using Americans to pay for their parishoners.
Anyone else get this letter in a “private reply” like I did?
Yes, and the mods did their thing.
Allow me to retort:
Invite them to your house.
You pay for their medical care and relieve the tax burden on me.
You pay for their education and relieve the tax burden on me.
You pay for their food stamps, WIC, AFDC, etc, etc, et al and relieve the tax burden on me.
You guarantee their good behavior.
You pay for their incarceration when they break our laws.
And finally, I guess you won't mind if I just stop by your house, sneak in the back door, and help myself to the cash in your wallet.
Putz.

Sir - If you are so Christian and so caring, then why don’t you set an example in keeping with your preaching: give your worldly goods to the immigrants, or better to some citizens of Mexico IN Mexico. There is absolutely NOTHING stopping you from doing so. Report back, please, when you are done and tell us how your generosity improved the recipient’s long-term condition.
