MEXICANS ARE GOOD PEOPLE
Catholic Messages USA ^ | June. '07 | Vincent Bemowski

Posted on 06/04/2007 1:44:00 AM PDT by servant675

It is very important to remember that unlike Black Americans, bigotry against Mexican Americans is still not being fully addressed.

Amnesty should continue to be part of our approach when attempting to solve our immigration problems with Mexico. The contributions hard-working Mexican Americans make to our society easily wipe out any so-called "free benefits" legal or non-legal immigrants may obtain through local, state, and federal programs.

Unlike some other Americans, many Mexican Americans are good people who possess a deep faith in Almighty God. Therefore they deserve to be treated with compassion & respect. In addition, we should double or triple the number of immigrants allowed on an annual basis with our friends from Mexico.

We must not forget that it is only with great difficulty & through hard work at low-paying jobs few other Americans want that many Mexicans eventually become citizens of the United States. It truly a blessing that so many Mexicans seek the opportunities the USA offers, & we should be honored to receive them in greater numbers into our country.

No really..I want to know what army you are going to take down to the border to arrest all of the people in the border states that won't stop breaking the law.

No you don't. You broke the debate with a sarcastic comment, just like you're doing now, because you can't address the fallacies you've been posting. Specifically, the last one about illegals wanting to blend in.

It’s not sarcastic..it’s reality. If you want all the Mexicans arrested along with all the border state business owners then what army will you take? You are the one making the demand.

If the writer of this has such good will towards Mexicans, why is he condemning those Mexicans least able to help themselves to a continued corrupt government, by making it easier for the most motivated Mexicans to escape, rather than seek a change?

They came here to escape something so horrible that they left much of their families behind just like almost all of the people who came to these shores.

Yes. They did leave their families behind. A not Christian action. They left their families behind to let them suffer and live here in relative paradise.

Instead of staying home and fighting for their own paradise they simply abandon their world and come to ours. I find that sinful.

Would you ever want to be forced to leave America and go back to where your ancestors came from?

I don't know. Poland and Germany are a heck of a lot more civilised than mexico.

This thread started by declaring "mexicans are good people". It quickly focused on illegals. Most of whom are decent people but still invaders stealing from the U.S. citizenry.

Let's look at the truth. Not ALL mexicans are good people witness the oligarchy that oppresses the peasantry. Clearly by definition not ALL mexicans are good people. The vast majority are uneducated and downtrodden. They are in that position due to the corrupt govt. that rules mexico more like a monarchy than a democracy. Yet, you continue to attack Americans that don't want an uneducated, unskilled servant class imported for us to take care of. You do. It brings up and interesting question. Why?

What is your motivation for forcing the U.S. taxpayer to support and care for millions of people whose first act towards America is, in effect, a hostile one? These people have invaded our country and yet you honor them. That is beyond my understanding.

It is said that God will those who will help themselves. I believe He meant to help those that would try to raise themselves from poverty and strife not force others to help them. If they are not willing to stand and fight the oppression in their own country why should we reward them for simply leaving?

Your entire "As Christians we should help them" is fine for the Church or private charities but as far as the govt. goes that is not the govt.'s (hence the taxpayers') responsibility.

I feel no inclination or responsibility to help these people. What makes them more deserving than any other people on this planet? Clearly there is a cultural preference being fostered here. Why?

Once again, let’s get back to the point we were discussing, how you think illegals want to assimilate. But you won’t, because you have no argument.

“Unlike some other Americans, many Mexican Americans are good people who possess a deep faith in Almighty God.”

what a bigotted statement!!!

So apparently we should let Mexicans stay even if they came illegally because *they are better than us*!?!?

never mind that this claim has been horoughly debunked in terms of social pathologies, family breakups, crime, illiteracy, etc. the illegal immigrants here are not the people we would have here if we had a legal immigration process.

Coming from a Catholic source, I am ashamed to be Catholic with this kind of nonsense.

Never before in our history have so many immigrants come from one country. This goes against assimilation and will harm our nations identity. It also harms our ability to bring other immigrants from other countries.

“I cannot condone this incitement to lawlessness. It shows a lack of respect for America and Americans. It probably stems from concerns about differences in wealth. Coveting the wealth of others is a sin that is common among the left, even the religious left. It is a sin that has proved harmful to individuals and nations alike. This is a foolish and morally wrong message, and should be repudiated by all Catholics. Their concern should be for lost souls. Maybe that concern no longer motivates them.”

Well said! His message is not a Catholic-based one, but a corruption of it. The pro-amnesty Bishops have gotten corrupted and greedy by their own agenda of filling pews, not asking the questions of why those pews have to be filled in America instead of in Mexico.

I'm a "good person".
Is it OK if I don't pay my income taxes anymore?

No? - Where's the compassion?

Mexicans and other latin americans are being feretted here for three reasons.

1. Workers for the Repulican business owners.

2. Voting block for the Dems.

3. To pay for the Social Security Benefits of the baby boomers in the coming years.

Good, bad, nice; none of that has anything to do with immigration, illegal immigration or what our “leaders” want.

That would be a punishment of unimaginable magnitude.

Emphasis mine.

You surely toss around the adjectives with abandon when describing deportation. If it's such an unimaginable punishment, why do so many repeatedly suffer it ? Masochism ?

Sound like they are describing Democrats...but then they have to account for why those "good Mexicans" routinely vote for the those "other Americans".

H'mmmm. Maybe they aren't so "good" after all...

The problem with annexing it is that you have to do way to many purges for it to be economically viable in the short term.
Besides those purges are not the American way...yet. We have to goad them into a fight. Not hard. Trying to interfere in domestic affairs is usually a very major deal in the UN so by law we could. Though like Isreal we are always the Great Satan no matter what we do.

Then again with the influx of resources we won’t need as much trade with those countries we might lose favor with.

I thank each of you for responding to my article & expressing your opinions on immigration. However, some of you appear to have forgotten that EVERYONE has an opinion, and you cannot please everyone. I have received very positive comments from Catholics & those of other Faiths. We live in a free country, and each person is allowed to express his or her opinions as long as they don’t slander or personally attack others who do not share their beliefs.

Along with a number of Catholic bishops, I have expressed my concerns that bigotry is being practiced by some of those who are pushing for “enforcement” of our immigration laws. It is easy to be judgmental, but difficult to be a true Christian, and truly practice your faith. You must remember that we are a nation of immigrants, and not all came to this country legally. Even some of our ancestors may not have entered this country legally.

I have my beliefs and you have yours. I see a great deal of good in Mexican Americans, and the people of Mexico. Many Americans are very selfish & spoiled. Many Americans fail to see that breaking God’s Laws is far, far more grave than breaking a man-made law. If you lived in a country that offered few opportunities for you to support your family, you would also want to seek citizenship in the United States. Express your opinions, but do so in a dignified & fair manner. Thank you.

Vincent Bemowski

This is a free country. However this bulletin board belongs to Jim Robinson.

Clearly some who think we should enforce the laws of this country do so for bad reasons. So also some who think we should break the laws of this country do so for bad reasons. Ceteris paribus we should enforce the laws of this country.

My mother was an immigrant as was my paternal Grandfather. They were legal immigrants. My grandfather was harassed because he was German. My mother reported to the government every year as a legal “alien”.

There is no question that the People of Mexico are children of God. There is also little doubt that 12 million or more people from Mexico and other South American Countries have come to this country in defiance of our laws. Many, not all — maybe not even a majority — once here show further contempt for our country and go so far as to claim that parts of it are rightly theirs. That has nothing to do with their being children of God and with our duty to charity.

But, again, Aquinas places his discussion of Just War within his discussion of charity. Charity is more than giving into the demands or complying with the requests of others. Already the United States is the most giving country on earth. If you doubt me, get a copy of “who Really Cares”. You may be astonished.

In your last paragraph, you mention people seeking citizenship in the US. What you say is true. But how many of these illegal immigrants are interested in citizenship because they believe in the values of this country and wish to contribute to the US?

More importantly you talk about countries offering opportunities. Mexico offers no fewer opportunities than the US does. Mexicans have failed to CREATE opportunity for themselves. As long as the persistent notion is that opportunity is given, not made, Mexico will remain poor. If that attitude dominates in the US, we will become poor.

If we acquiesce to the demands of what I think is a bogus charity — something more akin to giving an alcoholic a handout in front of a liquor store than providing REAL help — we will end up unable to help others.

But please, before you say any more about selfish Americans, read “Who Really Cares”. The formerly liberal economist (I think, maybe sociologist) who wrote it said that while liberals TALK about giving, conservative Americans are in Practice and on a per capita and per income basis the most giving people on earth. You simply must read this before you throw around suggestions that those with conservative points of view are tainted with selfishness.

And Free Republic MAY be dignified when pigs fly, but certainly not before!
