Circuit City Lay Offs-Why Dems can't comprehend FREE MARKET
Posted on 04/02/2007 1:44:40 PM PDT by jamala3232
another example of Democrat-leaning sites inability to comprehend the FREE MARKET
I am sure many of you heard about Circuit's restructuring plan:
Can anyone please tell me why countless democrat-dominated site, like this one, are swarming with people who do not understand that companies have a right to adjust to the free market as they please? Makes you wonder how companies would be treated today if Gore won lol.
Quote: "Circuit City Wednesday announced a plan to lay off 3,400 employees and replace them with newly hired employees that will be paid less. On its Web site, Circuit City said the layoffs were part of a "wage-management initiative." The layoffs occurred Wednesday and targeted employees who were paid well above the market-based salary range for their role, the company said in statement. The employees were to be replaced with new workers that would be paid at a rate in line with the market."

i will not shop CC. not because of this but what they did 4 or 5 years ago.
most of the staff there where commissioned sales people. some people hate that but i for one liked sales people who knew what they were talking about. anyway, they fired all of them and went with the “best buy” model of under payed floor gnomes.
now that they have left the sales market they are forced to keep lower cost.
i support their move to cut costs, and i support them going out of business for their poor service and short sited management.

When FR starts pushing hard and I mean hard against abortion, gay marriage, homosexual education forced on our school children, pandering to illegal aliens, gun control, McCaine-Feingold type usurpation, global warming, etc, etc, even if supported or advanced by the GOP, then I fully suspect certain types of moderate/liberal Republican supporters are probably going to be a little uncomfortable here. We will be fighting for traditional American conservatism no matter who we have to fight against and I'm afraid that's going to piss off some folks. ~Jim Robinson~

I haven’t shopped at CC but maybe 3 times in 4 years - simply because their service is horrendous. The concept that some of these people are overpaid is not a surprise to me.
And for all of the people complainging about this - I expect that most, not all certainly, but most who are reviling CC will have no moral qualms about buying a large ticket item there if they can get it a substantially lower cost. How many will stand up and say “I will gladly pay $200.00 more to the other store for the same item.” And oh by the way, that other store pays their people less already, and is the reason that CC is reorganizing.

I’m not saying I’m the smartest person in the world, but it seems to me that if the old CC model worked, then BB would be copying their model, not vice versa.

LOL, I like your thoughts on this.
And yes, they can do what they want, but this is going to hurt them long run.
I wonder how long before the top guys bail? 2 years? Long enough to reap the short term benefits of this move, but soon enough to avoid the fall out.

Circuit City is more or less and entry level job. Very few people can make it a career. When a retailer has this type of layoff practice it's time for all of its employees to move on. Besides Circuit City is more often than not, overpriced. What say you?

If you have read some of the replies here, we are wondering what you think/believe about CC's plan. It is considered good form to insert your own comment on the post you made. Otherwise there are some hungry rascals known as the Viking Kitties waiting for you......

OS, breakingpoint by chuck colson wrote about this today and made it out like the company should be socialist. I am fine with them laying off personnel, in order to stay in business. That is part of the corporate cycle. They suck (personal opinion) at what they do and will probably go out of business because BestBuy and WalMart are better and cheaper, but the company in created to make a profit. Back in the 80's "chainsaw" Al Dunlop made a killing as the "mean" old CEO brought in to downsize companies and save them. Econ. 101 says the company comes first, period.
Not saying that it's the feel good thing but when it comes to the bottom line, we all take a back seat and no job is safe. IMO
