Gay Rights Crowd Targets . . . White House Easter Egg Roll?
Wannabe Newbie Anglican ^ | 1/13/2005 | Mark Marshall

I’m not kidding. And I promise I’ll try to refrain from salacious humor.

Anyway, I received this press release from the respected Institute of Religion and Democracy (IRD) yesterday:

NEWS ALERT: PRO-HOMOSEXUALITY ‘SOULFORCE’ TO CRASH WHITE HOUSE
EASTER EGG ROLL

Thursday, January 12,2006: Soulforce, in coalition with other groups advocating acceptance of homosexual practice within Christian churches, is planning to crash the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

“On April 17, 2006, when the White House lawn is opened to families for the Annual Easter Egg Roll, imagine if the first 1,000 families onto the lawn were LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] families,” enthused an e-mail alert from Soulforce.

“LGBT” participants are being urged to gather at the White House gate the night before so as to be the first to enter the next morning. They will also arrive with special t-shirts to identify themselves as “LGBT.”

The White House Easter egg roll dates back to the years after the Civil War and has become a venerated event. Besides thousands of children and parents, the roll often includes prominent entertainers, the Easter Bunny, and sometimes the President and First Lady.

Soulforce, in cooperation with other pro-homosexuality caucus groups, such a the “Reconciling” group for United Methodists, is asking same-sex couples and other non-traditional families to bring their children to the White House so as to expose America to “LGBT” families.

“The media will be there (they are always there for the egg roll) and millions of Americans – many for the first time – will meet our families,” the Soulforce e-mail reported. “This is an amazing opportunity to reach homes in blue states and red states with positive images of our families participating in this great American family tradition.”

Soulforce went on to promise: “This event will be like nothing anyone has ever seen before. The White House lawn – the Bush White House lawn – will, quite unexpectedly, be filled with gay and lesbian families. This is something people will be talking about for a long time, an event that will make history!”

According to Soulforce, “It is time to claim our place at the table. Come to our nation's capital and let America see who we really are.” Soulforce promised: “It is basically going to be the biggest LGBT family party ever, you and your kids will have a great time.

Recipients of the Soulforce e-mail were asked to be “discreet” and not to post the information on websites because the “success of this action depends on keeping it under the radar of the media and the administration!!!”

Over the years Soulforce has become well known for its disruptive demonstrations and acts of civil disobedience at church conventions. Other sponsors of this effort to target the White House Easter egg roll include: the Metropolitan Community Church, PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), Love Makes a Family, BLGT Office of the Unitarian Universalists, and the unofficial Reconciling Ministries Network within the United Methodist Church.

-------

Soulforce went on to promise: This event will be like nothing anyone has ever seen before.

No. No. I promised to refrain from salacious humor.

But seriously, a problem I have with the gay rights crowd is their lack of respect for others and their consciences. The Easter Egg Roll is not a big event for me. But even I know that event is not the time for grandstanding on pet issues.

To bring it closer to home, I’ve seen good men who can’t spend much time with their children because their ex-wives don’t abide by custody agreements and get away with it. I feel very strongly about that issue, and it’s certainly family related. But I wouldn’t dream of using the White House Easter Egg Roll as an opportunity to create a grandstanding stunt on even that worthy issue. It would be inappropriate and disrespectful.

If you want respect – and the gay rights crowd seems to DEMAND respect – then respect others. That’s pretty basic, but some don’t seem to get it.

This will gain about as much popularity for the homosexual lobby as invading Saint Patrick's Cathedral.

Truth be told, the butt pounders really believe that they are on a roll. Next presidential campaign they will really demand that the Democratic nominee support sodomite marriage and they will raise a major stink if he doesn't. The Democrats can no longer finesse this issue.

Targeting children, how low can you get. Hopefully the Secret Service will take care of these loons before they get near the White House.

I do NOT get it.

Do they think that if they act like spoiled brats we will give them what they want in the hopes that they will go away?

I bet they might even demand the next democrat nomination be a homosexual, I guess Hillery fits the bill there too (I am not sure she is really straight.)

Fergit it, man ... they'll hunt out all the eggs, puncture the shells, then suck out all the yolk with a vacuum straw ... leaving the ruins scattered on the WH lawn for all the children who come later to see for themselves what nasty punks liberals have become.

Really nice PR for these extremist ghouls, ehhh ? NOT !!

Come to our nation's capital and let America see who we really are.

I've already seen them, once when they invaded Orlando for Gay Days. My kids saw things in the Magic Kingdom they weren't ready to understand. Don't recall seeing "families" though, just men and women, many of whom were behaving badly.

I'm sorry, but no matter how many they sway with their arguments, no matter how much pressure they exert, they can't change the Word of God. This is not up for debate.

Quite frankly, and all kidding aside, that's exactly what they think.

Hillary was outed as a Lesbian at the Gay Lesbian march on Washington many years ago. Whether it's true or not I don't know, but it probably is.

It says a lot about how popular the cause really is that Hillary refuses to come out of the closet. It would delight her base, but it would make her unelectable.

I really think that there's no reason for the children to feel humiliated by anyone - the only way to do this is for those who think it is important to SHOW UP FIRST. That way, if it is important enough to traditional church groups and families, they should take time to SHOW UP FIRST and get in to the Egg Roll. No one cries, no child's unjustly humiliated, and it's the American Way to just SHOW UP FIRST.

If it's that important, SHOW UP FIRST, people.

No uglier than the lines to see Star Wars...

I suggest everyone get in touch with their inner Jedi and prepare to go VERY early - perhaps even the night before. If they are there with their children, I would hope that they would behave. And if they don't, it will be broadcast to the world. The same applies to us of course - and we must be sure to remember that if this is truly about values, then we must act as Christ would act - with love.

I was thinking of the Star Wars lines!

The history of the Easter Egg Roll is pretty interesting.

It's really an American event, like the lighting of the Christmas Tree or dropping the ball in Times Square. It's not a religious event. Even if I lived close enough to attend, I doubt I would. But the fact that they are planning to camp out and wear t-shirts shows that they are there not to take part in an American tradition but to make a political statement -- perhaps at the expense of children.

If they want their families to participate in this great American family tradition, then they should dress their children in their pretty outfits (or parkas or rain slickers -- is the weather always awful there on Easter?) and take them to enjoy the day. Let the kids roll the eggs, pet the animals, visit with the Easter Bunny and enjoy being American kids.

As far as advocating the acceptance of homosexuality as legitimate in the Christian church, there's nothing they could do to make me accept it. If they behave beautifully, if their kids are a delight, if the day is truly wonderful, it will make no difference. I would say the same of anyone trying to force acceptance of heterosexual premarital sex or adultery. They can believe what they want, but it doesn't change the Truth.

Thanks Cicero, I did not know that Hillary was outed. I did not really follow politics till 2004. I know 27 is a bit late to start following politics, but better late then never.

It could get ugly, but not over the line - last year, the Easter Egg Roll was open to the public, but it required a ticket for attendance. The National Park Service distributed free tickets on two prior dates for entry to the South Lawn. The majority of tickets were available beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, with the remaining tickets available beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, March 28.

"The tickets, which are timed for entrance, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion (southwest corner of 15th and E Streets). A maximum of five tickets will be issued per person. Children of all ages are welcome to attend, as long as there is at least one child seven years old or under and no more than two adults per group. Tickets are required for every attendee, including small children, to enter the White House South Lawn. No tickets are necessary for access or events on the Ellipse . . . Children of all ages are welcome to attend, however the event is geared towards young children. While there is no minimum age, you must have at least one child under the age of seven in your party."
