Colin Powell criticizes spying program, says they could have gotten warrants

Posted on 12/23/2005 4:14:20 PM PST by EveningStar

"My own judgment is that - it didn't seem to me, anyway, that it would have been that hard to go and get the warrants. And even in the case of an emergency, you go and do it. The law provides for that. And three days later, you let the court know what you have done, and deal with it that way."

I know you've been fair. You're always reasonable :~D

I did not comment on Powell's comments last week. I don't even know what they were.

You can browse the headlines below.... several articles where he both supported the need and custom for foreign covert 'prisons'. and the need for troops and support to Iraq for the long haul.

Powell was a loser from the beginning, however on this one he is correct.

He has a right to his opinion.

So do I. He is a twit for saying this.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Now don't everyone start jumping on his case. He has a right to his opinion.

And being an American Citizen, so do I. He may have provided "gravitas" to the Bush 2000 campaign, but he still brought Desert Storm to a premature end... which we are now paying for.

I would prefer to hear the question he was answering before I get all bent out of shape over it.

Well, you can buy the transcipt from the ABC Nightline site. I heard the radio clip on the way home. I did a web search could only come up with a left wing blog. At least for now. Perhaps someone on FR taped the show.

I do hope to see this reported on elsewhere.

I heard the clip, too. And, I wondered just when Colin Powell earned his law degree.

For the first time, IMO, Powell sounded stupid.

I wondered just when Colin Powell earned his law degree.

That passed through my mind too.

Opinions borne of ignorance are best not spoken to the likes of anyone in our America hating media.

I don't think you can claim his opinions are borne of ignorance. He's more qualified to speak on the technicalities of what we're discussing than any of us.

Remember, they would have to serve every phone co. Recall that they can now do over 20 at a time. They are only limited by their not being found out.

Since he is incorrect in suggesting that the President did not have inherent authority to protect our nation from attack, I believe he spoke of venom or ignorance.

I am more that a little irritated at the national press corps sudden obsession with this topic.

In administrations that were far less interested in national security and prosecuting terrorists, far worse violations like carnivore, Escalon and illegally obtained FBI files were handled by a single NY Times article and dropped due to disinterest by the same national press corps.
