DEBKAfile Exclusive: US Marines are locked in battle with Syrian troops
Debka ^ | November 25, 2005

Both sides have suffered casualties. US soldiers crossed over after Damascus was given an ultimatum Thursday, Nov. 24, to hand over a group of senior commanders belonging to Abu Musab al Zarqawi’s al Qaeda force. According to US intelligence, the group had fled to Syria to escape an American attack in Mosul. Syrian border guards opened fire on the American force.

Easy there, the source is DEBKA. Usually about as trustworthy as the National Enquirer

Is Debka not the most reliable of sources?

No. Grain of salt the size of a boulder.

You think Fox or CNN can squeeze this in between jessica simpleton getting divorced and turkey fryer diasters? All of the real people working there are on vacation. There won't be anything reported until tommorow if true.

I seriously doubt that U.S. forces would cross the Syrian border to retrieve some Al Qaeda. Not worth the international complications.

I've seen the Syrians on TV claiming that there have been occasional skirmishes between them and US forces.

I'd be more inclined to believe it was another of these border skirmishes without the underlying embellishment from Debka.

Why not.....if you had solid intel Zarqawi was in the group you were chasing...I think we would risk Syria getting its hackles up.

Most likely, the Syrians fired from across their border and Marines returned fire.
