For a starter they could:

• Get off gov't assistance and become independant.
• Start looking up to people who suceeded in life, not the ones with the gold chains.
• Learn to speak like a person, not a rap star.
• Stop blaming every problem you have on racism.
• Forget about "bling bling" and start saving money for the future.
• Quit having 5 babies from 5 different fathers.
• Get an education.
• Stop listening to Jesse Jackson and people like him.
• Resist the temptation to vote for the politician who plays the race card.
• Clean up your neighborhoods and cities.

I'll put his NEW Book, next to Then Darkness Fled, a story of Booker T. Washington. Good stuff not only for blacks, but poor whites, some Native Americans, Aztlan crowd, and the hippies, beach combers and welfare moms. Let's translate it into 18 different languages. I tip my hat today, and hope that Hurricane Rita doesn't blow this post off of Free Republic, but that it goes around and around.

Walter Williams (I think) summarizes all this by saying:

1. Finish high school.
2. Get a job, any job.
3. Get married before having children, and stay married.

It doesn't matter what race a person is, or how poor they were to begin with. If they follow these rules, they will almost never be in poverty.

Success is a continuous journey spurred on by the pain of even small failure, and the ultimate triumph of God-given will, intellect and especially persistence over circumstance.

I like your tagline about facts. So I'd like to ask if you know the following:

- the percentage of African Americans on government assistance, and the average income of those who are not
- the percentage of black mothers who have multiple babies by multiple fathers
