Nominate Walter Williams for the Supreme Court
9/12/2005 | Lafayette

I think President Bush should nominate someone like Dr. Walter Williams to the Supreme Court for at least two reasons:

1) The entertainment value. Watching Walter Williams answer Senator Ted Kennedy's questions during a confirmation hearing would be interesting.

2) A dig at lawyers and the American Bar Association. Nowhere in my reading of the Constitution can I find a requirement that Supreme Court Justices must be lawyers. Lawyers are folks who study, work with, and presumably love "the law." I want someone on the Supreme Court who loves Liberty first and foremost - and someone not affiliated with the "legal profession." The legal profession as a whole is inbred, self-serving, overpaid, and morally bankrupt [but my lawyer is OK].

As much as I like your idea (I'm a huge fan of Walter Williams) I would be happier if the President went along with the Democrats wishes and select a woman or a minority.

...

Perhaps, combine those two qualifiers (woman/minority) and you have Walter Williams alter ego, Janice Rogers Brown.

You like apples? How about them apples?

A good, sensible idea. That means the liberal senators will put it in an oldsmobile and drown it.

I think Judge Roy Moore would be a good choice. The entertainment value would be at least equal to that of Williams.
