Beltway rumors are not to be taken too seriously. The one circulating now has SecState Condi Rice replacing VP Dick Cheney next year due to Cheney's bum ticker.
This of course would be a calculated political manuver to position Ms. Rice to have a clear run at the presidency.
Republicans and conservatives so fear the potential of a celebrity vote sweeping Hillary Clinton into office that they are desperate to do something. They think a black conservative female is the only political trump card that can beat former First Lady Clinton.
Current polls make Republicans nervous:
A CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll last week found that 40 percent of the Democrats polled said they would be most likely to support Clinton for president, 25 percent said they favored Sen. John Kerry and 18 percent said former Sen. John Edwards.
This celebrity phenomena cancels any logical thinking by the voters.(See California recall race, 2004).
This may not be such a bad move for the Republicans if they want to retain the White House in 2008.
If these people believe polls, let alone ones conducted 4 years ahead of time, they need to be fired.
Cool. Lady against she-devil. That would send the male voters into a frenzy.
What about Rudy?
Everyone keeps talking about Hillary's stance on illegal immigration. What is it? I haven't heard. At this point, if she really is wanting to put a stop to it, she will have a LOT of people backing her. Something the Republicans had better acknowledge soon.
You'd have to be a true fool to believe that. Her way of putting a "stop" to it would be exactly like her husband's: declare them all legal. That takes care of that "illegal" part. Don't forget, these are Dem voters we're talking about.
Hillary is sure getting a lot of gullible folks with this stuff. It was like her "soft on abortion" statement, which actually did nothing to change her position on abortion, and simply told conservatives they should work harder to make sure everybody in the country got on birth control virtually from the day they entered kindergarten. And conservatives swooned.
Like her husband, all of Hillary's positions are firmly anchored in Jello pudding. They can be moved hourly and such behavior is celebrated by the MSM.
Hillary is worried that taking too strong a stand on illegal immigration will alienate the Hispainic vote. She started making a view strong statements against it, but has since backed off. As you know, Hillary doesn't really take a strong stance on anything. She "triangulates," just like her husband. I had to laugh, Mary Ann Means wrote a pro Hillary article this week, claiming that Hillary's mutating abortion stance was not a flip-flop, that she was just trying to accomodate differing views. In actuality, all Hillary did in her statement regarding abortion, was to tell the pro-lifers that she feels their pain, but wasn't going to do anything about.
Thanks. That makes some sense. I still think the Republicans had better get off of the dime on illegal immigration. Or Hillary will get the votes of those grasping at straws all along the southern border.
Speaking of Hillary, I just saw a 5 second clip on CBS of her face while being interviewed. CBS used a camera filter to "soften" her features. You know, the type that make people look slightly smudgy. The MSM wants her in 2008. Make no mistake about that.
Border voters would be making a big mistake in trusting Hillary to solve their problem. Any overture that Hillary would make in their direction would be just like the one she made to the pro-lifers, I feel you pain, but am not going to do anything about it.
Just speaking for myself, I'm getting REALLY tired of rumors about VP Cheney being replaced.
I think it's just people trying to upset the applecart to make the team seem weak, and exploiting his heart condition to do so.

I agree. Cheney has served this nation all his life and we're fortunate to have had him serve in that respect.
However, he has said he isn't running in 2008. That leaves a vacuum. A vacuum Hillary is aiming to fill. Hillary is a hardcore socialist. Not someone who should occupy the White House.
Sanchez squeaks out victory, flipping seat from extremely conservative to ultra-liberal.
I seriously doubt that Cheney will give up the Veep.
Hillary is about Hillary. She will focus group every issue she stands for. Rumors are fun, and they are grist for the mill of all of us Condi fans, but four years out, they still add up to a steaming pile of fetid manure.
Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dick retire.

Actually, I think this particular rumor started right here on FreeRepublic as a matter of wishful thinking.
It isn't really his choice. He serves at the will of the President. But I think the rumors of Cheney being replaced is a bunch of wash. Bush is not a strategist. He is a loyal man. Cheney stays until 2008. Thats my prediction.
Actually, it didn't start here. It's been banging arond the internet since 2000, at least. Lately, there's been word that Bush has been referring to Condi as "44", but again, that's unsourced as well. This has little to do with FR. It really got going when Condi became a Principal with her own beuracracy, State. A lot of this is going on the assumption that as a Harvard MBA, Bush likes to get his Succession Strategy in order.
