John Kerry's Magic Cellphone [Kerry Heard From Reeve On Saturday. Reeve Went Into Coma Thursday.]

It's sort of like his lucky CIA hat...

SANTA FE, United States (AFP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry hailed Christopher Reeve as "America's hero" and vowed to drive on the dead Superman actor's crusade for stem-cell research.

...Kerry said the last time he heard from Reeve was on Saturday, when the actor left a message on his cellphone, enthused by the Massachusetts senator's decision to raise stem-cell research in Friday's second presidential debate.

Oh really? WHO TV (Des Moines) October 11th, 2004 - According to sources close to the actor, Reeve died Sunday. The actor fell into a coma on Thursday after going into cardiac arrest at his New York home. It's true - Kerry will say ANYTHING to get elected...

Update: WHO Des Moines appears to be the only one reporting he went into a coma on Thursday. ABC, CNN, and others are reporting that he had a heart attack at his Pound Ridge, New York, home on Saturday during treatment for an infected bedsore wound. He fell into a coma and never regained consciousness. CNN puts it this way:

Kerry's cellphone is a little less magical, now it's just a bit suspect...

Anyone have a source for the actual quote. It might be easier to ascertain which Saturday this was if we read Kerry's actual words.

Reeve deserves the tributes he's getting regardless of what the grave robber has to say about it.

Davey- we hardly knew ye!

C'monguys- you have to recognize that John Kerry HAS made sacrifices for the downtrodden. It's a dirty job, marrying rich looney women to have the wherewithal to support leftwing causes.

That's what I figured.

But in all fairness - maybe it was a long distance call and it took a while for the electrons to reach sKerry's phone...

"The idea that Kerry would lie about his deceased friend for political purposes is contrary to his character..."

...and right in line with his hunger and quest for power in his own little lifelong pursuit of it not giving a crap on whose body(ies) he has run over to get there!

Maybe the Yahoo story has changed since you found it. Your link now leads to a story that makes no mention of when Reeve fell into a coma. Did it mention Thursday when you first found that story?

I searched google and hundreds of stories say he went into a coma on Saturday. The WHO story is the only one that says Thursday.

Is the WHO a typo, or did the rest of the media fall inline and report Saturday to avoid showing Kerry to be a liar? I find that hard to believe.

Yesterday, when I told my husband that Chris Reeve had died, he said that explains why Kerry mentioned "my friend, Chris Reeve" in the debate.

Kerry had a heads up that Chris was at death's door and chose to use his death for political advantage.

No doubt he'll be eulogizing "his friend" at the funeral.

Democrats, especially Kerry, have no shame. Wellstone redux?

Maybe that's why they call Kerry "The Undertaker"!

If you recall, Kerry dropped Marlon Brando's name after he died as well. Said they often discussed the situation in Nicaragua.

Reeve believed that research would someday help him walk again. He made it a major campaign issue. Sen. John Kerry talked about Reeve Monday, after finding out about his death.

Kerry says, "I was really blown away, because on Saturday, after the debate, I picked up my cell phone and I had a wonderful long message from Chris, who called me to thank me for talking about the possibilities of a cure."

If he had a heart attack on Thursday, would his family/doctors allow him to watch the debates? make cell phone calls? Bear in mind that he also had a bad infection and was in generally poor health. Doesn't seem likely.
