Dear sinkspur,

Thinking on your feet means being able to accurately assess incoming information and create a plan to meet the circumstances. What you're talking about is being "quick-witted," being a gifted extemporaneous debater.

I know folks who are one and not the other, and vice versa.

Whatever we know about President Bush, we know that he is not a gifted extemporaneous debater. But I think September 11 proves he can think well on his feet.

Bottom line, though, if someone can provide a video where M. Kerry clearly takes a paper out of his inside breast pocket, it hurts him. How much? I don't know. I'm sure seeBS and the others will all try to spin it. But it hurts, nonetheless.

Well, I disagree with the comment, though I agree, in general, that Bush was off of his game.

That said, if Kerry has note cards with bullet points on them, it is a hell of a lot easy to "think on your feet" when you have the major talking points written down in front of you.

And, truthfully, I don't know why each of them weren't allowed to have 5 index cards with them as part of the rules. No doubt the demoCREEPs would have cheated at that too, but at least Bush would have had an outline of what he wanted to talk about, with some of the key figures to support his statements.

Look, I don't shame someone because they aren't a "stat" machine. In fact, I don't want someone to rattle off stats and pretend that that's a point; it's not. (Come to think of it, Kerry seemed to do that often during the debate (and IIRC, he seemed to be reading off of something)). Anyway...

I want someone who will do the job and has proven they can do the job. In my opinio, that's Bush, hands down. And, even without cheating the way Kerry did, Bush's substance was much more clear. John Kerry said a whole bunch, but he really didn't say that much.

By acknowledging Kerry won in Style, I believe I have avoided falling victim to ignoring reality, haven't I? It is an admission in itself that in performance Bush did not excell. Though under no stretch will I ever make the leap to say Kerry looked Presidential.

Certainly perception is important, so is what was said. Iran Fuel, Globel test, U.S. Responsibility for Al Quida, possible nuclear domentation destroyed acknowledged by the Good Senator. Let's not forget his insistence he'd never call the President a liar and now we have his new ad doing so. Whatever negative Bush had from performance is outweighted by Kerry's own words. I don't believe the American people are going to base their votes on Style. I do believe they are going to consider what was said thuesday night.

I do agree he needs to improve his performance by Thursday, though only marginally. Bush has his own limitations and the public has laregly adapted to them at this point. Should he retain his calm a little better, he'll be fine. I simply do not support the consensus that suggests we should all be depressed or in hysterics based on Thurday's night's single performance.

It was no doubt a handkerchief to wipe the sweat off his orange tanned, botoxed, upper lip.

Even HE wouldn't be that stupid!

THIS IS BIG FOLKS. IT WILL BE ON RUSH AND FOXS IN TWO DAYS AFTER IT SIMMERS OVER THE INTERNET. LUCKY FOR US FOX HAS THE ORIGINAL FILM SINCE THEY DID THE FEEDS SO THEY ARE AS WE SPEAK ZOOMING IN AND DEFINITIVELY SEEING WHAT IT WAS.

SUPPOSE NOT TO HAVE ANYTHING BUT THEIR BRAINS. NOTES WERE CHEATING. REMEMBER THE SOPHISTICATION OF COLLEGE CHEATERS. THE EASY IN AND EASY OUT OF THE NOTE WAS WHAT KERRY WAS PRACTISING IN WISCONSIN. HE TREMBLED FOR 30 SECONDS FROM FEAR OF GETTING CAUGHT AND THEN HE SETTLED IN TO CHEAT.

DNC WILL SAY IT WAS A SWEAT TISSUE OR A HANKERCHIEF. HE HAD THE QUESTIONS BECAUSE DNC TOLD JIM LEHRER WHAT TO ASK. NOTICE LEHRER APPEARED ON IMUS A BIG KERRY NUT THE NEXT DAY.

REMEMBER THE GOLDEN CLIP OF KERRY BEING CAUGHT ON A HIDDEN MICROPHONE CALLING REPUBLIANS CROOKED CHEATERS AND LIARS.

MAYBE BUSH WAS MAD BECAUSE HE SAW THE CHEAT BUT COULDN'T CALL HIM ON IT WITHOUT CAUSING A INTERNATIONAL SCANDAL OF MEGA PROPORTIONS ON LIVE TV.

He missed a great chance when Kerry started talking about 9/11. Bush should have gotten in his face: "Senator, you don't need to tell me about 9/11. I was there on 9/11. I responded to 9/11." Instead, Bush never mentioned 9/11, one of the major remembrances of the entire country.

Actually, he did.

LEHRER: Mr. President, you have a 90-second rebuttal.

BUSH: I, too, thank the University of Miami, and say our prayers are with the good people of this state, who've suffered a lot.

September the 11th changed how America must look at the world. And since that day, our nation has been on a multi-pronged strategy to keep our country safer.

And, truthfully, I don't know why each of them weren't allowed to have 5 index cards with them as part of the rules.

James Baker and Vernon Jordan negotiated the rules. Had they agreed, they could have allowed Bush and Kerry to have two-drawer filing cabinets on the stage with them.

I also suspect John Kerry had Jim Lehrer's questions in advance...

The questions asked, the way they were phrased and the sequence in which they were asked gave him far too many opportunities to debunk every negative flip flop fact exposed during the campaign.

John Kerry's answers had the efficiency, grammar and formating of a prepared speech.

After the CBS forgery episode the obvious media bias is glaring and so evident it's actually brazen in its scope

Very good. I was afraid we where in trouble when Lehrer said he was the only one who had come up with the questions.

A liberal reporter from the liberal MSM and we have two more to go . They should have insisted someone from Fox News be a part of the debates also.

I couldn't believe President Bush's people would agree to such a format.

The person that draws up the questions and asks the questions has a great influence on the outcome of a debate.

Ask any lawyer.

Try this link to the video:

http://www.dailyrecycler.com/blog/2004/10/winners-never-cheat.html

You have to watch it to see how damning it is to Kerry.
He looks very "sneaky" the way he choses just the right time to smoothly take the notes out and set them on the podium from his breast pocket, with his side to the audience. He wasn't counting on a camera catching him from the back.

I clearly see Kerry pulling out a folded piece of paper, in the Washingtonpost.com video...

I suspect W saw him pull it out, got REALLY PO-ed, but couldn't shout out, "Hey - HE'S CHEATING"...and that it griped him for the rest of the debate, especially when sKerry started really rolling, using references from his cheat sheet -

so sKerry cheating got W flummoxed.

I Reported this in a Reply last Friday.

Kerry broke the rules. He brought written notes in his jacket pocket, while Bush followed the rules about not bringing talking points.

We don't know how that would be addressed, but that's why Kerry was able to stay on his points, and it speaks well for Bush, that just on memory, he got every name and nation correct.

Thanks! I've seen that video, too. The other link is the whole show. Scary Kerry definately pulls something out of his jacket. He definately folds up (down) a piece of paper, too.

HE CHEATED....DON'T YOU GET IT? This is what is called CHEATING. Its unfortunate that the liberals in this country feel this completely acceptable. You are astoundingly corrupt.

He also got the quotes and dates on statements Kerry made supporting and opposing the war correct as well.

I think the accusation that Kerry knew the questions beforehand is a lot of nonsense.

At one point, Kerry says he's not going to go into detail on something because it'll be discussed later. If he didn't know the questions beforehand, how did he know that they would be discussing that subject later? He wouldn't have been so sure of himself if he was just assuming it was going to be brought up. He knew.
