Recent remarks by US Vice-President JD Vance about the Antichrist and "the end times" are a "very common belief", one of his friends says.
Vance recently mused on his religious views while responding to a question on a Christian podcast. He said he would "not [be] shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us" and speculated on whether the end of the world was nigh.
Rod Dreher, a conservative writer, rejected any suggestion that the comments would harm the vice-president. He told the BBC's Today programme: "Most Americans who are inclined to vote Republican already believe this stuff."
In his podcast comments, Vance also clarified that such thoughts did not preoccupy him.
In Christianity, the "end times" phrase refers to theories about what will happen at the end of the world. Many churches believe God has a divine plan for the end of everything.
Meanwhile, the Antichrist is seen as the enemy of God who appears during the final phase of the world's existence and takes it over.
Vance, who became a Catholic as an adult, reflected on these topics during a recent podcast discussion with Bryce Crawford, a US Christian podcaster.
"Do I think that we're in the end times? I don't know," he said in response to a Crawford question on the subject. "And I think that it's probably bad for me spiritually to focus too much on it, because there are, like, things you gotta do.
"I gotta be good to my wife. I gotta be good to my kids. I have to be as good of a leader as I can for the United States of America."
The vice-president continued by saying: "I think that there are, like, things about the world that make me feel, like, not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us."

I don’t think the antichrist is near, too many people remember what the Bible says.
If it will happen soon they first need to have a fake antichrist that would eventually be exposed as a fraud because too many people know the antichrist comes before Christ. Then they can bring in the real antichrist that will fool a lot of real Christians.
BTW the antichrist and satan are one and the same.
Heck, I’m not particularly religious, and I believe it, or that there very soon will be an ‘anti-Christ.
You can be an atheist even, and see that the whole world is barreling towards ‘The Mark of the Beast” at maximum speed.
I used to think that it would have to be forced upon most of us, but millions are embracing the whole concept, if only for the sake of their convenience and to be trendy.
How will Vance do it without Trump “eccentricities”, when Trump will be posting on Truth Social every day and reporters will then ask Vance every day to respond?

So maybe we shouldn't just look for THE antichrist, but also antichrist teachings already among us. Most notably the people who deny the divinity of Jesus the Christ.

Of course, the BBC has a lot of chutzpah writing an article like this about Vance’s Christian beliefs. Has the BBC dug into what Muslim MPs believe about Al-Sa’ah and the Final Judgment under Islam? I suspect a lot more of them have hardcore millenarianism-type beliefs than Vance. But do the (99.999% likely) Atheist BBC reporters write these “aren’t these people strange?” articles about the Islamic officeholders in their own backyard? Nah. They don’t want their throats slit.
A Christian zealot loves.

Helps to see who's doing the talking, sometimes.
I have mixed feeling about Vance. He is outstanding taking on media liberals. But he says some really odd things sometimes. And there is just so much we don't know about him, a blank slate. Rubio and DeSantis aren't perfect - DeSantis comes across as a little testy instead of cool in such confrontations - but both are proven leaders with long track records.
Figures that the BBC (the Anti-Christs mouthpiece) would freak over this.
