...got in a REAL airplane...and was not just bad...but atrocious.
I could land it on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It might bounce a few times.
If the pilot passes out in a commercial jet, use the co-pilot! Duh!!
I was in a flight simulator and the company salesman, who was a former pilot on this model cargo plane tried several times to take us off for a simulated flight. (You could have taken the controls out and installed them on the actual plane. The whole thing was on a huge, movable platform with movie projectors giving a stomach-twisting reality to the experience.) He crashed several times. And this was a guy who was a former pilot on that model. First time, he forgot the flaps. I don’t recall the other mishaps. But the cockpit is mind bogglingly complex. So, no. The average Joe is going to kill everyone. The reason it works in the movies is the author needs it to.

I’ve been and still am a pilot for 40 years. I don’t think any young men can. They could look it up on google though! But by then they will have augured in.
After he's through getting (ahem) inflated.
It depends on how good the person giving you the advice over the radio is.
If the crew is incapacitated somebody needs to land the plane. With no alternative other than certain death, you need to at least give it a try.
I’m pretty sure that they can now autopilot planes from landing to take off without a pilot, so that sort of system should be added to every plane just in case... In fact, given the propensity of some pilots to commit mass suicide, they should have a system that can take over the entire operation of the plane when needed.
Simply enough to test.. they have pilot flight Training simulators for most large commercial aircraft. Pick an average group of men to twenty or thirty and put them in the simulator... see how they do
But they always land safely in the movies. Plus I have played flight simulator on my PC.
90 degrees into the ground is still a landing.
“Land” is a nuanced term. Won’t planes “land” themselves eventually?
The vaxx will make this commonplace, so we’ll find out soon enough.
Were the men they surveyed actual men, or women who think they’re men?
I did it. Am a “simpilot-MSFS” but back in the FSX day I was demonstrating it to a Delta Pilot. He took me out to the DeKalb Co airport (DuPage) and we took off in a 172. At 1200 feet and 5 miles from the airport he asked me to land it, and I did, in a cross-wind. Yeah, I hopped it, but I landed.
Having landed many time in a simulator, multiple time in an actual aircraft, plus my FPV landings with my rc airplanes, yes. No problem.
I could land one. I am not saying it would be necessarily a smooth landing.
I know I can, but I have a couple airplanes and fly a lot in an effort to produce as much carbon emissions as I can while trying to prevent the next Ice Age, which is guaranteed. My 4 2 stroke motorcycles help a lot too
