In one of his most ironic proclamations to date, Rob Reiner declared that “democracy” can only survive if former President Donald Trump is imprisoned and all third-party candidates are prohibited from running.
Rob Reiner — who is one of Hollywood’s biggest cheerleaders for Joe Biden — made his absurd statement in a recent post to X, formerly known as Twitter.
Hard Reality: For our Democracy to survive, two things have to happen. Donald Trump needs to be Convicted for Jan. 6th and there can be no Third Party Candidate. Some prominent commentators have noted that Reiner’s call to prohibit all opposition candidates is fundamentally anti-democratic and would only serve to benefit Biden. Reiner continues to serve as one of Hollywood’s biggest Biden boosters, from fundraising during the 2020 election to his more recent and dubious proclamation that Biden is the best president since Lyndon B. Johnson.
But as Biden’s poll numbers continue to sink and his own party appears to be turning on him, Reiner has become more aggressive and factually-challenged in his social media cheerleading.
As Breitbart News noted, Reiner was fact checked by “Community Notes” on X, after spreading a lie about January 6 prisoner and Proud Boys leader, Enrique Tarrio, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison on Tuesday. …

This guy is SOOOO sick. Needs to go away to some deserted place with no communications, to rid us of his insanity driven mouth.
How he can be such a blithering idiot the rest of the time is completely beyond my comprehension. And with this latest statement he is edging perilously close to full blown treason.
Let democracy die, I say.
He’s fine with 3rd party candidates as long as they will siphon more votes from republican candidates than democrat candidates. I doubt he had a problem with Osoff getting into the Senate due to a libertarian candidate keeping Perdue from getting an outright majority of the votes in 2020, just like he won’t have a problem with 3rd parties taking more votes from the GOP in 2024.
I don’t understand what the heck he means by saying there can be no third party candidates.
Isn’t the essence of free and fair elections that we have choices in elections?
So if he had his way, a Republican party which nominates Donald Trump would be banned from the ballot, and third parties would be banned from the ballot as well. So who is left but the Democratic Party by default?
This sounds like he prefers elections with only one choice on the ballot.
I think he’s mistaking, “Democracy” for, “Communism.”
Epstein Island visitor.
He’s fighting for his freedom.
What will be the course of this revolution? Above all, it will establish a democratic constitution, and through this, the direct or indirect dominance of the proletariat. …All communists do that.
— The Principles of Communism
Dictatorship is a state of intense war. That is just the state we are in. […] Until the final issue is decided, this awful state of war will continue. And we say à la guerre comme à la guerre; we do not promise any freedom or any democracy. …Exactly the path the Uniparty wants to continue to lead us down.
— Lenin, Third Congress of the Communist International
Indeed. Republicanism needs to rise back up.
It sounds like he wants America to become a tinpot dictatorship.
Oh, wait...
Never has any actor been more accurately typecast than this Reiner extremist as Michael Stivic.
I’ve carried buckets of water that had more intelligence than Meathead.
There can only be democracy if there is no democracy.
Meathead describes dictatorships and thinks it is democracy.
Obviously, Da Meathead has arrived at the insight that Democracy requires that the people not be allowed to choose their leader.
