OK, I'm an old Gen X-er.
I recall the Trifecta of 1980s men's colognes: Drakkar Noir, Polo for Men, and Paco Rabanne. Am I missing anything?
My favorite was Drakkar. I practically bathed in the stuff, thinking it would mask my cigarette and weed smoke from my parents (it didn't).
Anyhow, a Twitter person I follow seemed genuinely shocked to pass someone wearing Drakkar. This begs the question. Do scents go out of style?
I bought Polo for my father one year for Christmas. My grandmother took one sniff and said it smelled like Vicks. I loved Polo.
Basically they don’t...
Fragrances are basically classed as oriental, Floral, Citrus, and /or modern.
For example the woman’s fragrance Opium is basically a sweet Oriental Shalimar with a twist of modern updating.
You mentioned Paco Robanne... That happened to be a revision of a men’s citrus fragrance using a new chemical at the time (geranyl nitrile or Lemonile).

Thanks so much! I used to buy it in port on cruises, but on my last visit to my favorite shop in St. Thomas I was told they stopped making it.
Thank you. Haven’t seen that catalogue in years. I still have a couple dresses from there.
i love cologne on a man, as long as it is not trying to mask their B.O.
Still love Aqua Velva too, though and i know that stuffs been around for ever.

It’s funny how that works, our sense of taste and our sense of smell are linked together.
My wife liked Beautiful too. White Linen, too.
I recently bought a bottle of Tabu. When I was younger and working cocktails it’s all I wore. The hotter and sweatier I got the better it smelled. 🤣
"Windsong Stays on my Mind"
Truth in advertising for once.
Oh my....how beautiful.
Hubby and I are olfactory polar opposites.
A good smelling man makes me weak in the knees. Anything other than vanilla and he says “it smells like cloves” 🙄
I like it when a woman puts a little something behind her ears preferably her ankles.
Rodney Dangerfield
When he was asked about women and perfume.
My Dad wore Bay Rum. When he passed I snagged the bottle from his medicine cabinet before anyone could toss it
My youngest is engaged to an exceptional young man who is such an old soul. He reminds me of my paternal grandfather in so many ways.
He didn’t know my Dad too long, but he was very close to him. He loved the smell of Bay Rum.
Every once in a while a thread starts here that unexpectedly goes big-time. This is one. Kinda like the occasional barbecue sauce thread that gets 500 comments.
I have Tabu. At Christmas, you can often find gift sets in the drugstores that have a lot of these old scents - Heaven Sent and Chantilly are ones I don’t think I ever see at any other time.
Jingle was:
“I can’t seem to forget you
Your Wind Song stays on my mind”
That’s a great site. Thank you.
I only use aftershave which is Pinaud Clubman (the smell of your barbershop) or Brut (because it was free).
The go to cologne was always Lagerfeld.
