Do colognes go out of style? (Engaging with Twitter person who was shocked to pass by someone wearing Drakkar Noir).

OK, I'm an old Gen X-er.

I recall the Trifecta of 1980s men's colognes: Drakkar Noir, Polo for Men, and Paco Rabanne. Am I missing anything?

My favorite was Drakkar. I practically bathed in the stuff, thinking it would mask my cigarette and weed smoke from my parents (it didn't).

Anyhow, a Twitter person I follow seemed genuinely shocked to pass someone wearing Drakkar. This begs the question. Do scents go out of style?

My high school and college fragrances were English Leather and Canoe.

Like any other thing related to fashion of course they do.They come back into tavor again. Lilac Vegetal a mens aftershave or 4711 are very old and still widely used. Both were created early 1800s. I use Blenheim Bouquet created 1902 4711 was popular in the 60s They were spending a lot of money on advertising. When they stopped its popularity dropped. Because of its low price it lost its cache.

“Identify it as being something their parents wear.”

True. A young lady, 20 years old, told me that Chanel no. 5 is for grandmothers.

I love Wind Song, she tried it, but it gave her headaches. So I just kept one around to sniff every once awhile..

I had a bottle of that stuff, among others.
One was from the 1970s, in a purple ceramic bottle. I found it when we were packing up to move and boy, did that stuff REEK! I can’t believe I wore that back then.

When we were first dating my wife had a perfume that whenever she wore it I would go into sneezing fits. I don’t know what it was but once I told her it was triggering the sneezing she never wore it again. I don’t miss it.

I definitely don’t know what’s trendy these days but fruit and candy doesn’t surprise one bit.

Also, I agree with tastes degenerating rapidly in everything.

I never wore Polo, but my father-in-law, may he RIP, did. And so did a former boss I worked for at the time- he wore so much of it we could smell him coming a mile away, which was a GOOD thing !

Here’s another one-British Sterling! In the TV commercial, a very attractive young lady would say,”My men wear British Sterling, or they wear nothing at all.”
After 50 years. without ever thinking about it one time, I remember it just like that!
The top half of the bottle was actually plated in sterling silver.

We have a cat named Charlie. He could use some cologne.

My wife liked Giorgio and just about anything Estée Lauder.

Thanks for the link! My memory is telling me that British Sterling was an amber color, not green. But I could be wrong.

Take a bath and you won’t have to worry about pouring on the cologne.

I liked Beautiful (one of my sisters wore that) and some of the other Estée Lauder scents, but Youth Dew was cloying to me and gave me a slight headache.

I used to use Youth Dew but quit for some reason. My favorite now is Chanel’s Mademoiselle.

My grandfather had cologne or aftershave that I liked but have never been able to figure out what it was. Twice I have passed by someone over the years who had the scent but did not ask....

Anyone guess what someone born in 1900 would use in Minnesota?
