Around the country, night workers at Walmart stores are being told to come in five hours early ON Thanksgiving. After having work until 7am that morning, they must get whatever sleep they can and then reutrn to work at 5pm for a 12 hour shift. How much time does this leave for them to spend the holiday with their family?
Walmart wants to call their employees associates. No, they are just workers.
I don’t ever remember having a Thanksgiving where I was off in the Marines. I served under Carter, Reagan, and H.W. Bush.
My sympathy meter is busted.
For every Wal-Mart employee complaining about this perceived outrage, there are ten people who would love to have their job and do the overtime with a smile on their face.
Boo. Hoo.
It’s time to quit your Walmart job and go work for someone else.
Don’t work in retail if you don’t like the hours.
It is perfectly understandable that Walmart wants to make sure the shelving is full stocked and ready for Black Friday, the single most profitable day in the retail year.
Profitability = job security.
It's not FAIR!!!!
Walmart is so evil for putting people to work. This goes against everything Noobama stands for.
I understand that you feel for these people who won’t be spending time with their families but times are tough. My husband works rotating shift work and I can’t tell you how many Thanksgivings, Christmas’ etc... we didn’t have him home. In fact, he’ll be working 12 hours this Thanksgiving. So, we will have it a day early or a day later. We have the holiday as a family and not based on a calendar date.
Those workers should quit and go to work for another company! That would show Walmart!
Do they like being employed or would they rather be unionistas on strike. As I see it they are being paid for the hours they work. Quit whining!
I have worked more Thanksgivings, Christmases, Easters, and other holidays than I have ever been home. Perhaps they ought to be thankful that they can use the OT to buy a better Thanksgiving dinner.
These folks would not do well in the military if they are complaining about working on Thanksgiving.
My dad worked for the coty fire department. He had to work on holidays many times. Anyone who works in retail knows this is the businest time of year.
Guess what?........... It sucks to work....... but that’s what grown ups do to provide for themselves and their families.
My wife works for Wal-Mart...take your whining ass attitude and stick it...
She has worked there for 5 years, her biggest issue is nobody has a set schedule, changes week to week...
She makes a good hourly wage, (over $10.00 hr) decent medical dental benefits, 401K, stocks, 10 % discount on purchases.
Don't like working at night, take some initiative and apply for the numerous mid managerial position they offer
....or go visit a OWS site and squat with the rest of the vermin ...let them hear your whining
I’ll take your job if you don’t want it anymore..
Exactly and many give up their family time to get the hours they need.
I think it’s great. Quit your bitchin and quit your Walgreens job.
Go work somewhere else. No employer should have to put up with bitchy employees in this economy. ‘Course it may be hard to find an employer who wants to hire a bitchy employee.
Just quit, and let your spot open for a better employee who appreciates having a job.
Generally, I agree with paulist. However, I spent part of my life living behind a small country general store, that my mother owned and operated. Sundays and holidays were the only break she ever got (and that wasn't much of a break for her, what with household chores waiting).
I'm old enough to remember the controversy over Sunday shopping. Outside of religious observance, the biggest argument against it was the effect on family time. Sunday shopping hits the small ma and pa retailers the hardest, because they often don't have anyone to cover for them. Bigger stores have part-timers, shifts, etc. so it shouldn't be such a problem for the workers there. Apparently eccentric has found otherwise.
I had to buy my uniform at my first job back in 1982 when I worked for Burger King making onlu 3:15 per hour.
That job put me through college!!!
Stop your whiney Liberal garbage...
Haha EVERYBODY got it wrong!!! The answer is 10 hours. Easy!
