Walmart ruining holidays for workers
vanity | November 13, 2011 | Linda Martine

Posted on 11/13/2011 11:06:23 AM PST by eccentric

Around the country, night workers at Walmart stores are being told to come in five hours early ON Thanksgiving. After having work until 7am that morning, they must get whatever sleep they can and then reutrn to work at 5pm for a 12 hour shift. How much time does this leave for them to spend the holiday with their family?

Walmart wants to call their employees associates. No, they are just workers.

>>I take abuse from customers and continue to do my job.<<

What exactly makes you think you’re different from anyone else?

You sound like a victim.

If Obama is re-elected, Wal-Mart could be unionized in much of the country before his second term is out.

Pure unadulterated fantasy...

Care to explain how Obama can force Wal-Mart to unionize when he will have most likely a GOP Congress both House and Senate after 2012 ?

As much as Obama likes to think he is the "lawgiver" and "ruler" the executive branch pretty much has ZERO power to legislate labor laws and regulations....I'm sure he will try... but will fail..

You think Wal-Mart will simply sit back and allow their business model to get unionized ?

You really need to learn to ignore idiots who use Alinsky tactics.

BTW, there are now MORE unionized government employees than in the private sector, and the government worker wages are substantially higher.

A complete reversal of how things used to be as recently as 1985. This is when "free trade' and Wall Street started kicking into high gear. Those unionized production jobs are in China, Mexico and Asia now. Of course everyone wants to work for the Gov't now. Millions of good "guy type" jobs were exported. The job market is much more feminized compared to 1985

I think I would be damn happy to have a job.

Many of us work very long hours not just on Thanksgiving but every day a customer needs something. We are called out all the time to get a prescription for someone sick. We are MORE than happy to do it. That is OUR JOB!

And during tax season (Jan - May) we hardly see one another.

I am glad you are sticking up for Wal Mart considering your wife is employed there.

That company is awesome in my opinion....

I appreciate their wide product selection, low prices and the decent jobs they provide to my community. I also have always appreciated their support for school choice and pro family organizations.

And "trapped" by the good wages and benefits, otherwise why would mardi59 stay there?

Maybe the CEO needs to do an Undercover Boss to find out how his employees are being treated.

Doesn't need to.

The long lines waiting for a job there is answer enough.

So are your own observations about people not being there after complaining.

Evidently Walmart has decided to follow the rule many companies do, 'an unhappy employee is an employee that needs to find another job'.

That's for the benefit of Walmart, Walmarts customers, other Walmart employees, and the discharged employee himself.

You should begin a serious search. No matter what you say, the subtle, unconscious, message you are sending to the customers you interact with is not a good one. You'll be happier elsewhere.

“They could care less about the customers their employees, Christmas, Thanksgiving etc... It’s all about more profit man”

Am I in an alternate reality here?
Business is always in it for a profit. That is what business does.
They are going to care about its customers, because the customers are the people who help them realize a profit.
The customers want to shop on Black Friday.
WalMart is going to give the customers what they want.
I could give you a whole long list of people who work on the holidays. Join the crowd.

Don’t bother. He’s stuck between “Freeze the Target” and “Frame the Argument.”

Following Alinsky tactics means you never have to be right, just abusive, annoying and offensive.

Easy, when people ATTACK FReepers and line up with the UNIONS here on the FREE Republic, responsible FReepers ping the management. Trolls are often well and deeply disguised, but that kind of conduct is a great indicator. Now do you get the idea? Sort of like calling for a cleanup on aisle seven when some idiot makes water on the floor. It is a public service.
