I'm not saying this is the way it should go, but for me, it went bourbon as a young man, irish whisky as the taste developed, and then nestled into the scotch as the palate matured and settled down to a sipping type restraint.
Glenmorangie as the everyday benchmark, Laiphroaig for the smoky flavor, and Lagavulin for the best of that.

Otherwise, your Glens are all good; but, "Dalwhinnie" is hard to beat.
A suprise is "Dewar's 12 Grand Reserve." If your guests didn't see you pour it, they'd swear it was one of the Glens.
For a conversation piece, you can always serve "Sheep Dip."
I gave out Crown as Christmas presents to the brother in laws (3) many years ago. Turns out it was one of the sister in laws that found their new favorite sippin’ drink that season.
I was in NYC (Manhattan dead center) and was just happened to wander into an Irish Pub (now I wish I had grabbed a card or something to remind me).
I had per diem and was feeling experimental and spied a bottle of Scotch with a “30 Years” on it. I asked the bartender about the price for a shot and he said “we have never served it — it is a show piece.” Well, after a few minutes of negotiating, we settled on a $30/pony price if he would join me ($1/year).
I must confess it was so smooth it was like sex without the subsequent alimony. It is hard to describe but them who have experienced liquid beauty know of which I speak.
And the bartender stood me up the next round, we promised to be drinking buddies forever and, sadly, I have never had the chance to get back there.
If any NYers are reading, this would be about 2 or 3 blocks from the Ritz — any idea where or what the bar was?

One of my favorite hobbies is searching for the best whisky at the lowest price. The current leader: Forty Creek Premium Barrel Select {Canadian).
Right now now I don't have a bottle in my bar, but I don't recollect that.
The story is that it got its name from the fact they hid it from the revenuers in barrels placed in the barn and when asked, they said it was sheep dip.
I’m working on a bottle of Buchanan now. I tried it for the first time in Monterey,Mexico earlier this year and kind of liked so I am working the bottle to see if it is repeatable or not.
I like Chivas a lot.
I really enjoy Johny Walker Black - Just Like That (neat).
Laiphroaig and Bowmore are my favorites as well. Nice contrast in body and taste.
Sitting outside with a Perdomo #2 maduro robusto and watching the horses on an early fall weekend. It hardly gets better than that.

Tried three vintages of The Balvenie, and prefer the Signature 12-year-old (although I wouldn't turn down a Doublewood or 15-year-old ever).

On my first and only pleasure cruise I brought the better part of a 750ml Glenlivet along in a Lipton iced tea bottle. Figured I’d have something in the cabin that way, but I barely got into it though with so much going on. I do think it’s interchangable with Glenmorangie as a great pour.
