You might want to do some homework before posting like a snotty sixth grade girl....
From the Kenyan Embassy in Paris site.....
"The first full franchise General Elections were held in May, 1963, with KANU the winner. On 1st June 1963, Kenya attained internal self-government. On December 12th of the same year, she attained full independence. On the first anniversary of independence in 1964, Kenya became a Republic with Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as the First President."
IOW, There was no Republic of Kenya before December 12, 1964, it did not exist. As you yourself noted, the document is signed and dated ten months prior to that date.
Then how the hell were people referring to the Republic of Kenya in 1963 newspaper articles?
Ok, then how do you explain THIS?
How do you explain THIS?
If they were independent in 63 and had a Constitution in-place that has not changed that much except amendments according to their site, I don't know what else they would be called.
It sounds like the difference was that in 64, they declared themselves a Sovereign Republic.
Following the announcement in August that the Government would soon submit for approval a comprehensive set of amendments designed to transform Kenya into a Republic This Source Is Refering To August 1964: 3rd paragraph down - The Role Of The Senate In The Kenyan Political System - by J. H. Proctor, Jr.
Then there is this entry in Wikipedia on Jomo Kenyatta under Leadership (5th paragraph down.)
On June 1, 1964, Kenyatta became President when he successfully had Parliament amend the Constitution to make Kenya a republic with his office becoming executive President: the head of State, head of Government, and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
I dont put a lot of faith in Wiki but it was this entry that had me looking elsewhere to confirm. I still have found nothing about the June 1, 1964 event.
