Why such loathing of Melinda?

I don't loathe Melinda, and I don't think anyone else here does either. She just hasn't grown musically throughout the entire season. Every song she sings sounds like something out of the 1940's. The problem is, this is 2007. As Jonny mentioned in an earlier post, she's technically brilliant, but really very boring at this point in the competition.

There must be a reason why Melinda, who does have a great voice, was still a backup singer at the age of 29 (before coming on AI). Don't say the reason is no one ever discovered her, because she sang backup for some big-name contemporary artists. So she was exposed to record producers, song writers, and others who are in the business of spotting marketable talent.

I think at this point many of us just want something fresh and contemporary from her.

Sparks appeared on the January 17, 2007 broadcast of American Idol, earning a “gold ticket” and the right to appear in the Hollywood Round. American Idol judge Randy Jackson, made the offhand prediction that “Curly hair will win this year,”[4] which may have been made in reference to Sparks. Before going on to AI, she won Arizona Idol.

In 2006, Sparks was one of two winners who won the Phoenix Torrid search for the “Next Plus Size Model”. She was flown to California where she was used in a number of Torrid ads and promotional pieces. [1] A full-page ad for Torrid featuring Jordin ran in the December, 2006 issue of Seventeen magazine.

Sparks finished second in 2004 at the Music in the Rockies national competition for aspiring Contemporary Christian Music artists.[5]

In 2004, Sparks appeared in America’s Most Talented Kids twice, winning in her first appearance. She was one of seven to appear in a special championship edition of the show. This appearance followed two noted auditions in 2003, one with American Juniors and the other, Star Search.

Sparks has performed the national anthem at various sporting events, notably for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. She has also sung in such events as Country Thunder, a country music venue. She has appeared with Alice Cooper (in his 2004 Christmas show) and has twice toured with Christian contemporary singer Michael W. Smith. Smith has shown support of Sparks by encouraging Idol viewers to vote for her on his website.[6][7]

In 2003, at the age of thirteen, Sparks recorded a five-song album titled For Now, working with Matthew Ward, a legendary Christian music artist, and Gary Leach, an engineer who has worked on several of LeAnn Rimes’ albums. She appeared in a compilation album titled Live at Mr. Lucky’s in 2004.

As an actress, Sparks has appeared in several plays, recently starring in a dual role as characters Deborah and Bea in Magdalene at the Plumbline Theater in Franklin, Tennessee. She has also performed several times with Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix. Her first appearance was in March 2002 as an Emerald City dancer and as a poppy in The Wiz. She also appeared in VYT’s production of Cinderella in June 2002 and another production of The Wiz in August 2002.[8]

Dang...that is quite a bio.

I had no idea.

It is plain to see that she does not need AI..but, it would get her into the upper tier.

That is a lot to accomplish by 17. I was barely graduating high school...LOL

Thanks for the bio.

Yeah, I was thinking earlier, that maybe I’d start voting for one of the un pimped ones, like Phil, who did a good job tonight and could use the win.

Next week is their idolthon and songs that inspire week....

“songs that inspire week”...

I guess it would be too much to ask for one of them, especially Phil the Navy guy..to sing a patriotic song?

We could get some very strange songs next week. I imagine they will hype the heck out of it tomorrow night.

I think Jordan sang backup for Michael W. Smith. If you do a search, she’s been a very busy bee considering her age

What is with Seacrest tonight, defending that little idiot? Ryan got a new bed mate?

Okay, so I am a California girl, and I see this after the rest of you. Seacrest made me so angry tonight defending that twit and trying to shut Simon up! Randy and Sweetie also said he sucked, which he did BIG TIME, but Simon isn't allowed to? What was up with Ryan tonight? If I could call in and complain, it would be about this! Shutup Seacrest!!!!

He sounded flat, because he was from the first note. He is always lousy, but this was the absolute worst ever. Simon was right, it was as bad as the idiots they show during try outs. Too bad Ryan shut him down, which is not his job as host!! I am livid about that!

I just saw that (reviewing the tape.) The look on Simon's face was priceless. You could just tell he was thinking, "and just who do you think you are, Metro Boy?!"

You know what I like best about Blake? His dad. I had tears in my eyes when he came out with the ‘golden ticket’ and his dad was crying. Blake described him as the hardest working man in town, and you could just see his working class dad beaming with pride. That kind of father/son thing gets me every time.

Oh, I thought she immediately lost the surprised look and gave a big, more confident and pleased smile with his compliment. I’ll have to watch it again...

Yep, dial idol predicts that someone will be voted off. lol I think there are only a handful of people using that software. They have been way off all season, though, I suppose even a broken clock is right twice a day. Eventually they should get one right. Sangaya seems to be the pick to go. Even with the odds/betting, though a lot can change between now and tomorrow night.
