Good show overall last night. I'd rank them like this.
1. Melinda--I'm wondering where she learned her performance skills. Hard to believe she would have picked it all up by osmosis while singing background. Definitely the most polished performer I've seen on any season. Her style may appeal to an older crowd than AI's target audience which may cause her problems eventually.
2. Jordin--I thought she was great last night. Nice, pure voice but without the soulsiness of Melinda, Lakisha, or even Stephanie which differentiates her from the other divas. Has the youth factor going for her.
3. Chris S.--A little bland last night but he still has the best voice of the guys.
4. Lakisha--Blew it with the song choice. Great voice but her downfall may be that she's not versatile enough compared to Melinda.
5. Blake--The beat boxing is what gets noticed, but he actually has a good voice.
6. Phil--That performance has its odd moments but it also had some pretty good moments.
7. Stephanie--Seemed completely out of her element with that song. She's only two years older than Jordin but seems much, much older, and I think that works against her. Hope she gets another week to rebound, but I'm thinking she probably won't make it through.
8. Haley--Clever girl.
9. Chris R.--I think that's the best he's done. Sounded like he has been listening to the advice of the judges(Simon, I think) and is trying to lessen the nasal quality of his singing.
10. Gina--I expected that to work for her but it just didn't. More roughness, more rawness needed, I guess.
11. Sanjaya--Ridiculous. There were a lot of songs from that era that I think Sanjaya would have done okay with, but that ain't one of them.

Excellent analysis. I agree with most of it. I think Chris Richardson has a real chance of being in the final three. He is far and away the best of the men this season. He's handsome, engaging, and has real stage presence.
Big Chris, OTOH, always looks uncomfortable, as if his Dad in Germany is going to ask the Almighty send down a lightning bolt in the middle of his performance. He is too large to move around gracefully on a stage. Jackie Gleason was one of the few really big guys who could pull that off.
He should go this week or next.
Sanjaya was a disaster last night. He jumped around and screamed like a scared monkey. He should go back to Community Theater in Hawaii.
Poor Phil, he tried so hard but came off looking desperate instead of in charge. His chances of going home tonight are very high. But that would be good for his wife and kids...no year-long touring.
Blake is the most annoying little punk AI has ever had. He bothers me more than Ace or Constantine did. His weird spitting robot-vocals are extremely aggravating. Boy-Toy...yes! American Idol--NEVER!!
Now for the girls:
Lakisha had a ball last night, wearing all those diamonds and pretending to be a Bond Girl. She could sing the telephone book and sound fantastic. I love her voice--it's like buttah!
Melinda: What's up with the Broadway tunes every week? I've heard "As Long As He Needs Me" sung way better in Community Theater productions of Oliver. And the costume person must really hate her to dress her so drably every week.
Jordin: WOW! She hit it out of the ballpark last night with that wistful torch song. This girl has "IT"...or what Randy calls the "YO! Factor". An amazing talent. Will be in the top three at the end.
Gina--go home already and paint your bedroom black. Poor vocals; no range; bad hair; dippy personality.
Stephanie--still classy and beautiful, but poor song choice. Not enough OOMPH. She will not make it to the Top Three.
Haley: Why did she steal Antonella's shorts? She looked like a hooker from Eighth Avenue (NYC). What a sellout, pimping herself up to get votes. Begone, wedding singer!
I don't get the "Hi Dave" comment. Who's Dave?

I think Dave is the webmaster that owns "Vote For The Worst"--VFTW. This group has been holding Large Chris up for the last few weeks. Someone on the site threw down a challenge..."If you are a man, say Hi, Dave on the show tonight. Then we will know it is a sign to us, and we will boost your vote total". Some kind of weird pact among Losers.

I'm sure his Dad has already emailed him that he's going straight to the Lake of Hellfire where the flames and the worms will consume him.

As far as I've seen over there, vftw has never endorsed Sligh. They were endorsing Skankanella, then added Sundance, which split their vote. Nobody said they were bright! lol After both got booted they started endorsing suckgaya. It looks like they will stay with suckgaya until he leaves, then endorse Sligh, because of his 'shout out'.

Taylor was endorsed by them and seems to get it. Doesn't mean Taylor is 'godless'. It's all about votes and voting for the pserson that AI doesn't want to win.

'Idol' Contestant's Faith Questioned
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Chris Sligh, the "American Idol" contestant who has won fans thanks to his curly mop of hair and soulful voice, has a few people concerned with his departure from strictly Christian music. But for most others in this city of 56,000 about 100 miles southwest of Charlotte, N.C., Sligh has become a hometown hero.
Jonathan Pait, a spokesman for fundamentalist Bob Jones University where Sligh attended for several years, said: "We really are somewhat disappointed with the direction he has gone musically."
He nonetheless tunes in each week to monitor Sligh's progress.
Local fans—some wearing fake glasses and curly wigs and calling themselves the "Fro Patro"—gather each week at restaurants and bars to cheer Sligh on. The local newspaper has been tracking his progress on its Web site.
Sligh, a 28-year-old son of missionaries who spent much of his childhood overseas, kept his spot among the 11 remaining finalists last week with a rendition of "Endless Love." He'll try to improve on that performance, deemed "unemotional" and "uninspiring" by judge Simon Cowell, this week. The show will announce results Wednesday evening.
People who know Sligh well say that he may be singing rock 'n' roll on television, but he's always clear about the faith that motivates his music.
"He's not going to back away from the fact that he's a Christian," said Chris Surratt, pastor of Seacoast Church, where Sligh has been music leader for more than two years. "He's going to let that shine through in what he does."
Hundreds of people gather each week to hear Sligh's music at Seacoast, where his electric guitar and vocals have become an integral part of services, Surratt said.
Support for Sligh also is strong at North Greenville University, the small Baptist school he attended for several years after leaving Bob Jones in the late 1990s.
Cheryl Greene, the professor who helped Sligh hone his vocal talents, said just because Sligh may not be singing strictly Christian-themed songs shouldn't reflect on the depth of his faith.
"It would be like me being in a jazz band," Greene said. "You can be a Christian or non-Christian. It's a style of music."
But Greene said she still has worries over Sligh's long-term spiritual journey.
"Is he going to stand strong by his true Christian morals?" Greene said. "Christianity is a lifestyle ... and there are things in your life that you do need to stand for."
John Jeter, the owner of a Greenville nightclub where Sligh has performed with his band, said Sligh's wholesome attitude and his faith come through in his music.
"It speaks well to the fact that it's not all blood, guts and trash," said Jeter. "Music doesn't have to be filthy. You can have a good time in a good environment, and Chris is proof of that."
