Brothers To Be Released In Aruba Case

(AP) ORANJESTAD, Aruba A judge on Friday ordered the conditional release of two Surinamese brothers held in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager, their lawyers said. The two will be freed Saturday along with another suspect.

The judge ruled that Deepak, 18, and Satish Kalpoe, 21, could go free on condition that they not leave Aruba and remain available to police, said attorneys Ruud Oomen and David Kock.

The court on Thursday had ordered Dutch teenager Joran van der Sloot to be released under the same conditions imposed on the Kalpoes, who are Surinamese nationals.

Van der Sloot, 18, and the Kalpoes were arrested June 9. The brothers were released July 4 but were re-arrested last week. All three have denied any involvement in Holloway's disappearance.

Although the judge had ordered the brothers held for another eight days Thursday, he agreed Friday to suspend his decision because the brothers had made no attempt to evade justice the first time they were released, Oomen said.

"Since the brothers were free for almost two months and made no attempt to evade justice and submitted themselves to any court proceedings, there is no need at this moment to keep them detained," Oomen told The Associated Press.

"My clients will fully cooperate with the investigation," he added. "They maintain their innocence very, very emphatically."

Beth Holloway Twitty, the missing Alabama teenager's mother, said she was dismayed by the move.

"I'm devastated," she said, adding she would not comment further until the three suspects were released.

Attempts to reach prosecutors for comment were unsucessful.

Holloway, 18, was last seen May 30, leaving a bar with van der Sloot and the Kalpoes hours before she was to catch a flight home from a vacation to celebrate her high school graduation.

Van der Sloot has admitted to being alone with the young woman on a beach the night she vanished. He has said he left there alone and did not harm her.

Numerous searches throughout the Dutch Caribbean territory have produced no trace of Holloway.

TexKat, you've done a wonderful job on these threads; thank you so much for all your hard work.

It hasn't been easy keeping everyone on track, sort of like herding kittens, but you made it look easy. Thanks again.

All 3 Suspects in Aruba Case to Be Freed

All three men jailed in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager three months ago will go free Saturday, according to a judge's order - a development legal observers on Aruba said shows the government had no case.

Prosecutors late Friday appealed the judge's order allowing the conditional release Saturday of two Surinamese brothers.

Judge R. Smid ruled that Deepak Kalpoe, 18, and Satish Kalpoe, 21, could go free on condition they do not leave the island and remain available to police, said their attorneys Ruud Oomen and David Kock.

Caribbean Net News

Readers’ letters about the Holloway investigation in Aruba Wednesday, July 27, 2005:

From what I have read and heard on TV, it is pretty clear to me that there is a cover up going on with respect to the van der Sloot family’s involvement in the disappearance and probable murder of a US citizen in Aruba. I and my family will not be visiting Aruba again. We Americans should all boycott the place until they show some willingness to really investigate the disappearance and get past the local political considerations.

Our Department of State should issue a travel advisory pointing out that victims of crime have no practical redress through the local legal system.

Apparently feudalism still exists in Aruba, with the local nobility being exempt from law.

I have been to other Dutch islands in the Caribbean – let me say that I was told by others that the Dutch DO NOT LIKE AMERICANS. Well, I decided I would go and see for myself, and sure enough, the Dutch only like our money we spend, but show contempt for Americans every chance they get.

I usually travel with my 3 adult daughters… and you can believe that I will never, ever, go to a Dutch colonized country again.

I hope Natalie is found safe; but if not, I hope the guilty ones burn in hell! As for the 3 young men involved, I agree with many of the commentators, the truth only has one story. Lies after lies surely indicate guilt. Also the fact that the Police Chief is the godfather of Joran and a best friend of Paul! Something really stinks in Aruba!

We had a group trip planned to go to Aruba, and due to what happened to Natalie Holloway, we have cancelled our trip. We feel that at this point and time things are very unsafe and that we will not take any unnecessary chances at this time. Don't know if at this time we will reschedule.

All Americans should boycott Aruba until Natalee is found.

The Arubans need to throw off the corrupt Dutch government. Until then Aruba should be boycotted. No justice, no beach.

Add me to the list of those who want to thank you, TexCat, for all you've done on these threads. I pray for Beth tomorrow; it might be one of the hardest days she's had. Soon the truth can be told, however. I am just glad that they are not allowed to leave the country. There may be a chance to get these guys yet, with what Beth knows, if she tells the American media.

This is a very bad hand dealt to Beth.

If she thinks there is enough evidence to make out a case, she should start a wrongful death action in her home state and put the whole case out there for all to see. You know the case will be covered by cable TV.

I believe there are viewers of this thread who know how to get a message to Beth. That said, I hope that she and her family expose all they know about this case - ideally by writing a book on the charade of Arubian "justice".

The book would be required reading for any groups or even individuals considering a trip to the "happy island", especially groups of young vulnerable ones like Natalee's group.

The book would be a public service and hopefully a lifesaver to potential future victims of the Pimps or other wannabees.

TexKat, I also wish to thank you for all the work you put in on these threads.

What a sad ending to this story.

No justice served in Aruba. No Body / No Crime. Aruba the happy little island remains crime free! Satish, Deepak, Joran, and papa Sloot are free and will likely inflict more pain on future victims.

I guess I will try to let go of following this thread. Nothing new is likely to develop now. Aruba is done worrying about the American press. The hurricane was what they were waiting on. It has arrived and they will take their final hurricane reduced lumps in the press and move on. As memories of Natalee fade Aruba will rewrite the story. They are already saying this AM that if the three did hurt Natalee that those three weren't Arubans anyways just other visitors on the island. Soon the story will be of a young American girl named Natalee that found freedom abroad and ran off with a handsome prince. The victor writes history. Papa Sloot probably has his pen in-hand this AM. He won and can take his chip-off-the-old-block home. I imagine that on slow nights when the two of them are alone they will have a grand time reliving old stories about how smart they were. It will probably help cement their sick father son bonding.

Good-bye thread, I pray that God Bless Beth / Other victims seeking justice.

To: TexKat; All
Hopefully this does not mean a closing of our interest in the Aruba issue or our support for Beth.. over the past few weeks we have seen many of our FRiends missing in Aruba action on this thread... given we are all busy, we all are side barred by the hurricane disaster.. we still need to consider our silent pledge to support and champion Beth' plight...

While I do not know any of you personally, or know Beth .. from your post and your passion I have gained new insights and courage to move me to this post...

So what is still open if all the suspects are now moving freely in Aruba?

First: Are the three suspects really "free".. or is this just legal Aruban semantics? Are they on "house" arrest as has been mentioned.. if so Why? What exactly is "house arrest"? I imagine that Beth/Jug have taken these questions to the Aruban authorities.. along with a need to know exactly what evidence the authorities claim.. if this is not satisfactory I urge the next considerations.

Second: While their passports are supposedly confiscated.. this is Aruba.. close to the South American Continent with miles of open beaches... it is easy to secure a new name, passport etc.. and leave the Island ASAP.. with a few "associates" and money this can be a fact.. With house arrest, what assurances are in place to prevent this? To just collect their passports and claim the suspects are honorable enough to not leave the Island is insane!

Third: Now is the time for Natalee's family to ramp up the cause.. give a few days for the public to digest the Hurricane media overload.. then call a huge press/media conference.. with all the family... in Alabama and if possible a simulcast in Aruba.. family at both sites.....Perhaps on the Beach where Natalee was last know to be and in Alabama at Natalee's school or her church .. this will need expert PR work, but demands honesty, simplicity and disclosure.. this is the time for Jug to tell his facts, for Beth to challenge the government/Royal Court in the Netherlands.. for someone (not the family but a "name" person).. to throw down the boycott gauntlet - demanding the US Government to ACT!...

Fourth: Through the right channels, a well known/honorable publisher must make an announcement of an agreement to work with Beth/Jug in publishing their journey.. with all the warts disclosed..

I guess you can tell I don't have a deep capacity for giving up .. I have truly felt a closeness to Beth - perhaps because I am a parent and sent my children abroad as their College graduation presents... I cannot even think of my reaction if I were in Beth/Jug's position... but if I were.. I would cherish each and every one of you and bless your prayers..

I hope to hear from you all in this quest...

A Very Sad Fritzy!

I am with you, Fritzy! I do hope that Natalee's entire family goes public with everything they know to be true! I am still praying for the truth to come out, for closure for the family, and for justice to be done!
