On Aug. 12, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a state of emergency "due to a chaotic situation involving illegal alien smuggling and illegal drug shipments" on his southern border. Three days later, Gov. Janet Napolitano followed suit in Arizona.

Reason: the crisis on the border. The ally-ally-in-free immigration policy of George Bush and Vicente Fox, beloved of corporate America, has created a hell on our southern border.

Those Southwestern states are being inundated by illegal aliens trashing ranches, killing cattle, committing crimes and eating up tax dollars. The traffic in narcotics and human beings from Mexico is a national scandal and a human rights disgrace.

What is true of New Mexico and Arizona is true of our nation, which is now home to an estimated 10 million to 15 million aliens who have broken our laws and broken into our country. It is a mark of the cowardice of our . . .

you have to admit, last year something like only 13 employers were fined for hiring illegals, which isn't much.

You made a good point. Here is an excerpt from an article in the Charlotte NC Observer today, Demand for Illegals Targeted:

More than half of the Carolinas' estimated 330,000 illegal immigrants hold jobs -- even though it's against the law for employers to knowingly hire them.

So how many employers have been fined?

None.

In the Carolinas, no employer has been fined in at least two years. And across the country, only three "notices of intent" to fine employers were filed by immigration officials in 2004 -- though an estimated 7 million undocumented workers take home regular paychecks.

"That's ridiculous. They've absolutely failed in their mission to fine businesses," says Hal Weatherman, chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, a Charlotte Republican.

Last week Myrick called for raising fines from $250 to $10,000 per illegal worker, and giving local law agencies a cut as an incentive to crack down.

This has gone on my entire life, but never have I seen a President more under siege over it.When the left starts complaining about it their potential voters, you know it is just politics!

that's the entire question that needs to be answered, not specifically iraq. it pertains to the WOT in general. how do you have a strategy to protect the homeland when it's soft underbelly is completely exposed? everyone knows you cant win while only having a good offense...you need a good DEFENSE.

closing the borders is a part of that. i just dont understand why it's so hard for these elites in washington to figure out, i want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
