Frist Threatens Jail for Terri [Schiavo] Judge

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.

In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:

"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness’ attendance or testimony."

"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.

"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

Forget about Geer, find a way to arrest Terri and have her placed in a jail out of Geer's jurisdiction.

(Well, okay, maybe I got a little carried away with the shacking up bit... Palm Sunday and all)

But marital priviledges can be waived, and the circumstances here as I understand them to be, could support finding of waiver.....

And take the kookie/whacked-out Anti-Abortion Pro-Lifers with them.

The actions by Frist and others disturb me greatly, but your sweeping generalizations about pro-lifers are insulting. Some are irresponsible fools. Some very few are downright evil. Many, however, are quite sincere and level headed.

Why don't you post who that doctor was?

In 2002, they ran every other test except an MRI which she cann't have because of electrodes. She had EEGs, CT scans, labs, etc., and 5 docs examined the tests and Terri and confirmed what all her previous docs and therapists said - that she was in PVS and that no current therapy could help her.

Two doctors were appointed by her husband, two by her parents, one was court-appointed, and her regular doctor testified. Read the transcript.

The only doctors who said she wasn't PVS were the two doctors who her parents hired. They were ridiculed in court and the other doctors openly refuted what they said.

The two doctors were:

Dr Hammesfahr
- an alternative medicine neurologist
- He's the one who made the 4 hour video exam we see 4 minute snippets of
- who said she wasn't pvs even *before* seeing her that one and only time
- whose testimony under oath conflicts with his public statements.

Maxwell (an elderly radiologist):
- On the stand, he couldn't tell the difference between coma and PVS, or give the descriptions of them - he just said she wasn't.
- He was there only to say he thought hyperbaric treatment (never used in a case like this before) could help, and that he thought there was improvement in her brain density on the scans. But it was clear there wasn't - just newer, clearer resolution and less grainy because the old image was "blown up" in size.

Those were the best 2 doctors the Schindlers could find to support their case that Terri is not PVS.

As I remember- you really wanted Elian's life trashed to, in terms of ignoring his mother losing her life in the battel to escape cuba and its hell.

Why don't you try posting some facts instead of attacks? Because you don't have any?

It says more about you than it does about me. Try reading the court transcript and report back when you have one teensie little fact at your disposal.

believe that even his Johnny-come-lately claim that she would prefer to die is based on a casual remark she is said to have made while they watched a TV show that involved someone kept alive with tubes, respirator, etc.

You 'believe', but the truth of the matter is that we really don't know, do we? We don't know what evidence he has presented to the courts over the years to bolster his claim that Terri Schiavo did not want to live these last 20 odd years in this condition. Likewise, I'm not aware of any evidence her family has presented that would indicate that Schiavo himself is lying. Absent that then what basis would the courts have to overrule what Schiavo insists are his wife's wishes?

The right of a person to decide that they wish to end their suffering and die with dignity has been established over the years in a number of legal cases. It amazes me that Congress can suddenly decide that it is they who will make this decision and not the patient or the patient's proxy. Amazes and frightens as well.

Perhaps Dr. Kevorkian can obtain a 24 hour furlough to visit his "friends", Mike and Terry.

There is a difference between doctor assisted suicide and ending all medical intervention and letting nature take it's course. Surely you can see that?

"Bill Frist can go to h*ll. And take the kookie/whacked-out Anti-Abortion Pro-Lifers with them. The hypocrisy stinks to high heaven in here."

Is this the type of "conservative" you want to keep around this place? Why is he even here?

Because if hearsay is inadmissibel in court for other trials and procedures, it should also be disallowed here.

Prior court cases have ruled that absent a Living Will or the ability of the patient themself to state their desires then the patient's proxy is legally entitled to make the decision based on their understanding of the patient's desire. Every state makes a person's spouse their next of kin.

Screw Mike Schiavo. he's gonna burn in hades forever anyways. Why give this evil man any benefit of the doubt?

Still making decisions for the Almighty?

All I've been doing is refuting the lies from the FR death squad. This is all about facts. If you choose to ignore them, I can understand the motivation.

There is a difference between doctor assisted suicide and ending all medical intervention and letting nature take it's course. Surely you can see that?

And there is a difference between medical intervention and starving a person to death

That medical intervention is also known as food and water

I realize there are cases that there are no other options for a patient other then to let nature takes it's course

My mother died last year .. long story short, her organs were shutting down

Though there was nothing we could do to save her medically .. which were her wishes stated in her Living Will .. we also did not deny her comfort

There is no FR death squad.

And you most certainly haven't been combatting what you perceive to be lies. I've yet to see you link anything or come up with one bit of evidence as proof that Terri isn't PVS.

All you do is attack people who are trying to stop FR from descending into madness. Freepers who are posting nutty things like: Terri never had a CAT scan, no neurologists visited her, her husband tried to kill her, etc.

So why don't you post a few facts and back up your post?

Yes. If I'm in a position to stop a murder -- it is by G-d's will that I am there with that ability. The coincidence actually creates a duty -- I may refuse only if it puts my own *life* at risk.

I don't want to be a jerk by saying this when you're having these colds, but I don't think I've had a cold in about 10 years. Garlic everyday in recipes, vinegar, hot peppers and lots of water (beer) seems to do it for me.

But, when you may start to feel a cold coming on (that scratchy throat, etc.) take a couple thousand units of a quality vitamin C before it gets you. It can kill it before it's ready to take over your life...... but the garlic is probably the key.

Good luck........... and oh, stay away from those hookers. ;-)
