The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
No one sees your private replies except your intended recipents unless you or they share them with others. I do not view them or screen them in any way, shape or form. Neither does John (our systems manager) or the moderators. Your private mail is intended to be private.
I am violently opposed to the "not-an-amnest" amnesty, an I'm still here. I figure the whiners are just Nazi trolls...
He didn't propose amnesty. He proposed a guest worker program in which if illegals wanted to stay here, they'd not only have to be registered, they'd have to have a sponsor and be able to prove they have a job.
Good Deal !
The problem is spreading. You may see them picking fruit and bussing tables now, and eventually you'll see the ER bills and other associated welfare bills go up.
This might be the biggest thread since Hillary "collapsed" last week.
Also, Jim thanks for providing all of us with the forum to vent our spleens on many issues.
I am the grandson of LEGAL immigrants and am strongly opposed to illegal immigration, but not to immigrants per se. I think a large, well-guarded wall along ALL U.S. land borders would be a good security measure for our country. If I was a poor peasant in some other country, I would dream of coming to America, too.
It's very difficult to post an opus once you've been purged. It's been done a few times, but typically those threads get yanked. It's really not worth the effort.
So who exactly got booted?
I think so too.
Hopefully the moonbats from DemUn get bored or their munchies run out so we can see how many of the trolls are here from the WaPo and other assorted usual suspects.
Translation:
For weeks I have been trying to use JR's very influential web site to promote my agenda and he won't let me. Waaaaa.
Not to mention that by tolerating vigilante groups opens the site up to a significant amount of legal liability. Let the vigilantes pimp their blogs elsewhere. If your interested in that kind of thing, it's easy enough to find. In the meantime, if and when the excrement strikes the oscillator, we don't want to get splattered. And who the heck are these "open border" posters? Anyone I've ever seen posting that crap gets flamed so fast a banning is an act of mercy!
BUMP
You appear confused; check this out:

You must be one of those Capitalist types.
; )
Thank's again Jim.
Well, but that isn't really an immigration problem. That is a problem with activists judges who grant full citizenship rights to illegals and mandate that we have to school them, hospitalize them, and provide them welfare benefits.
Jim,
I just realized that this is probably Nathan Tabor's attemt to drive traffic to his site, nothing more, nothing less. He knows that he would get a lot of attention by writing this article.
No one cares if people come here... just do it legally.
