The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
I assume you are referring to the Minuteman Project. If so, you are failing to see street theatre at its best. Check the FAQ:
Love to see it; Freepmail, please.
He's a politician for cying out loud. No politician, ono matter how great is beyond influence.
Thall shall not question the zot!
This method works with raising kids, too, I understand.
In a word--YES! I got one, too, and kinda wondered how they got my name! I linked over there for a moment, but the whining was monumental! Bunch'a sore losers!
Jim I received a freepmail from "cantankerous" about alipac just a bit ago.
I wish you could post the time and date someone was banned so we could know on the "banned sheet". ;-)
I consider myself to be as conservative as anyone, and MORE than most folks. And outspoken about it.
I would like to tell you, That I am very glad to be here on FR.
While I don't agree with everything ANYONE does, I believe our President needs to be supported at times, when I don't have all the facts. I have to believe he does have the facts.
I have aquaintances who are illegal. I'm not sure how that came to be. But we have kept Spanish speaking children, coming to America for open heart surgeries and have run across many people who are Spanish that have helped us. We didn't speak Spanish and the children didn't speak English. So we had a definate need. They were here without parents.
While I don't know what to do for the illegal people..... They have come across our borders and we need to do something with them. But I don't know what!
This is why I have to trust our President....... to do what he thinks is best. That's why I voted for him, among other reasons!
I appreciate FR and will continue in my support.
God bless FREE REPUBLIC, and you and yours, Jim!
And God Bless America!

Agreed. I came close to saying something about 'shooting back,' but regret it. It's a bad, bad idea which would only lead to worse problems.
"there are some posters who are using the illegal immigration issue to insult and or viciously attack other posters on this forum. These people should not be surprised or act innocent when they lose their posting privileges. Continued posting of racism, personal attacks, insults, profanity, etc, will lead to a sudden loss of posting privileges (with or without warning or explanation). Don't bother writing."
"Final note: I do NOT support open borders or illegal immigration. Sincerely doubt there are many on this forum who do." (Most of us don't Jim!)
Which member are you talking about?
You got mail!
This is silly. A lot of neo-nazis are unemployed and as such have a lot of free time. When I had some norse mythology artwork on my profile page I'd get inquiries from some storm fronters about it. My reply used to be 'I'm a goffel. Still wanna chat?' LOL
No ..
Just please don't compare us to NPR
I am a dollar a day Freeper and I also send money to the George Bush campaign fund.
I am for closed borders and against social services for illegal immigrants---
Gee, I oppose Bush on that, but contribute. I oppose some of the Freepers on this site, but contribute.
I think those of us that spend money, tend to try to keep the area clean, if you know what I mean.
I don't plan on admitting to being middle aged until I'm 70.
Hmmn, second attack in a day. Is someone out "there" out to get FR?
Even 10,000 sounds unbelieveable. I think theres a definite effort to maximize the problem here. O' Reilly used this figure on his show. Maybe I miss heard him, but I heard Hannity say it too. Maybe it's per year.
nikos
I hear you.
