Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

You really need to come out and visit Salinas, CA, or South Fresno, or Orange Cove. Areas of little "assimilation"...they more resemble Tijuana than the U.S..

"I am not in favor of a dramatic change in the demographics of this nation from ANYWHERE"

"Anywhere" being the operative word.

"Now why am I a racist to oppose that while they are not a racist to support it?"

THAT is a very good question.
Very good points in your post, wardaddy.

"Now it's heading to the personal insults category. We're not supposed to do that."

Yes, those who yelp loudest about "personal attack" are usually the same ones who habitually dish it out in spades.

"However, since you choose to argue with all of us who advocate closing the border the opposite must be true."

There it is in a nutshell.

Anyone who does not believe that their solution is the only solution, who believes that band aids will not work where cures are needed, and who questions the feasibility of an undefined notion called "closing the borders", is deemed to be a proponent of the exact opposite.

I don't believe that "closing the borders" is possible, I don't believe it solves the problem even if it could be done.

I don't believe in posting the military at the border to stop the flow of illegal aliens entering into the country, because it would become a permanent mission...the moment that we took the forces away from the border, the movement north would begin again.

I don't believe in your solution ray, you don't have the answer, but contrary to your claims, and the claims of others like you, that does not mean that I approve of illegal immigration.

And lay off the abuse button, it's already been done.

Huh, a hundred years ago people in the US were basically saying the same thing. Back then it was Dublin, Naples, and Warsaw.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Our founding fathers saw the reality of the inefficiency of the Crown ruling a nation from across the ocean; they saw the world as it was, and changed it.

Don't burden them with your shortsightedness.

I don't need to talk to him. We're not the ones hurling insults --- we're all having a good enough debate and not getting personal. It's an important topic --- all of us are influenced by where we live, what we see first hand. We can share (touchy-feeling enough?) our opinions without anger and hostility --- I think.

Yours is one of the best answers I've read! Maybe taking away any benefits to illegals? No driver's licenses, no public school, no subsistence help, no rent help, no medical help, etc., etc. "These Benefits Available ONLY to Citizens and Those Here Legally". Too many Democrats and Rhinos for that to happen, though.

RE: your #2034

Those are good points but if you really want to see where it's at google, "no-match" letters

(Ya see, we really, really do know who they are and who hires them. The laws are not broken.)

It's not only business it's the immigrant "rights" industry that goes ballistic. Of course that industry includes lawyers, lawyers, lots of lawyers. Courts courts courts. Protests, protests, protests. Lobbying, lobbying, lobbying, Money, money, money.

As much as I am against shiny new laws for business, government, et al. to ignore I'd support the President if he would be up front.

To wit, no matter what the President proposes and Congress disposes the major howling will be from the immigrant rights "industry."

Prove to us, Mr. President, that you can thwart their efforts to circumvent and outright violate the new laws with impunity. No more more of the same from them, business, and government!

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Even if there were immigrant enclaves caused by the Great Wave in 1925 mass immigration was cutoff. That Act greatly encouraged and speeded up the assimilation process. Today there appears to be no end in sight and illegal immigration isn't helping matters.

Calling an idea asinine is not name-calling under any definition I can think of. If it is, then any difference of opinion on any matter here shouldn't be tolerated.

Is that what you want?

Tancredo's ties to Team America PAC, and his insistence on equating illegals with terrorist are good enough for me.

Ain't nothing wrong with Team America PAC.

As for the illegal aliens being "equated" with terrorists, I don't think Tancredo has ever done that. He has pointed out the fact that the border is wide open, ripe for terrorists to cross and bring whatever they want across. But, beyond that, there is a form of terrorism going on - slow motion terrorism.

Go HERE and read the second story down.

Better yet, I'll just post the whole thing here:

Slow-motion terrorism?

On Sept. 11, 2001, two jet airliners, full of passengers, slammed into the World Trade Center towers. Another crashed into the Pentagon and yet another into the ground in Pennsylvania. Everyone knows the story.

Within two hours, 3,000 people lost their lives. America was shocked and horrified. Around the world, people displayed emotion ranging from joy to unmitigated horror. Even in the United States some cheered, as horrible as it was. In Muslim countries, the event played over and over to the cheers of thousands. In Mexico City, people cheered and gloated as they burned the American flag, now that America finally got her "comeuppance."

World news media replayed the event ad nauseum.

I still have vivid images in my mind of people jumping from the towers – choosing instant death on impact over a relatively slow death by burning. These were mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. I cannot imagine having to make an instant decision about which horrible death I am to suffer. They had the choice forced upon them.

Every single terrorist aboard all four hijacked planes was an illegal alien. I won't go into legal details as to how every single terrorist was an illegal alien but I guarantee it is so.

After 9-11, America staggered in shock. I watched a news program in which an airline passenger was interviewed on the ground after her commercial flight was escorted by a U.S. Air Force F-18. She said that she looked out the window of the airliner in flight and "felt much safer" after realizing the plane was being escorted by a U.S. fighter plane. Little did she realize that the fighter plane was there to shoot down the aircraft with all aboard in the event the airline deviated from the planned route.

Tom Ridge broke out his crayons and came up with a color-coded terrorist alert system that was supposed to make all of us safer. For weeks afterward, a cartoon circulated on the Internet depicting a duck taped to a wall with the caption, "My duck is taped, now what do I do?" That cartoon is a testament as to the farcical measures taken by our government.

Political correctness prevents us from identifying the enemy. That enemy is radical Arab Muslims. Norman Mineta, the Transportation secretary held over from the Clinton administration, came up with a plan to avoid accusations of "profiling" by assuring that grandmothers in wheelchairs get "shaken down" and that U.S. combat veterans are intensely scrutinized while wearing their medals. All the while, Arab Muslims must not be offended with scrutiny even equal to that accorded the grandma with knitting needles and the crippled guy with a cane.

Meanwhile, Mexico fully expected the U.S. government to secure our southern border. For roughly three months, the human traffic over our Mexican border slowed to a mere trickle while people waited to see what America was going to do.

After it became apparent that real security measures were only taken against our own citizens, the Mexican border traffic resumed with an unprecedented intensity. After all, illegal aliens – particularly illegal Mexican aliens – don't present a threat to U.S. citizens. Do they?

Read newspapers from all over the country. You'll see stories of drunken illegal aliens driving automobiles into innocent citizens. Other stories tell of murders, rapes, robberies, child molestations, home invasions and illicit drug deals. Illegal aliens, particularly illegal Mexican aliens, are selling poison on our streets, killing our police officers, murdering our citizenry and then fleeing back to Mexico where they are coddled and even celebrated.

The U.S.-Mexico border is no more secure today than it was on 9-11. Sure, trucks and people are intensely scrutinized at ports of entry, but the wide spaces in between are allowed to remain open. Illegal aliens from all over the world continue to pour into our county unabated while every other nation of the world secures its border (or has its border secured by U.S. forces).

Currently there are roughly 2 million inmates incarcerated in the United States. According to reliable sources, 30 percent of those are illegal aliens. According to those same sources, 60 percent of that 30 percent are illegal Mexican aliens. According to an investigative reporter with the Washington Times, at any given moment there are 80,000 illegal aliens loose on the streets of America who have been convicted of murder, rape, robbery and child molestations and other serious crimes. They are roaming America simply because the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement failed to deport them after they served their sentences. Additionally, there are over 375,000 illegal aliens who have ignored orders to leave the United States.

Do the math. This means that currently there are at least 680,000 convicted illegal aliens in jail or roaming the streets of America. These 680,000 illegal aliens didn't go to jail for jumping the border, jaywalking or overstaying their visas. They went to jail for crimes against American citizens. They are murderers, rapists, robbers, home invaders and sellers of poisons. Each of those 680,000 prisoners and convicted felons committed a crime against at least one U.S. citizen.

How many of these are carrying guns to be used against the innocent while the U.S. government prosecutes U.S. citizens for carrying the means to protect themselves? In total, there are at least 1,055,000 foreign criminals within America's borders. Are there not enough domestically produced criminals without importing them?

Why were they allowed to enter and remain in America? It is because of the total lack of enforcement of our perfectly good immigration laws. While it is true that some illegal aliens may have come with the benign intent of finding a job and working, it is equally true that it is against the law. Our politicians wink. The cheap-labor lobby smirks. The common citizen pays the bill in blood and money.

How many citizens have been victimized over the last two decades of neglect on our borders? A woman was beaten and raped by five illegal aliens in New York. Angel Maturino Resendez, the infamous "Rail Road Killer," knifed innocent victims. The D.C. sniper killed innocent Americans. All major cities in the U.S. have had police officers killed by illegal aliens. The tally gets bigger and bigger.

In the last 20 years, how many innocent Americans have died at the hands of illegal aliens? I guarantee you it is considerably more than the 3,000 that died in the WTC. What is the difference between 3,000 people dying in the space of 2 hours and 680,000 American victims of murder, robbery and rape taking place over the span of 20 years? The victims are just as dead as though they died in the WTC. The blood is just as red. The grief is just as intense. The graves are just as deep.

Would anyone argue that murder, robbery, rape and even drug dealing are not acts of domestic terrorism? Again, I ask "Don't we have enough domestically produced criminals without importing them?"

With our wide-open borders, our liberal immigration laws that are not being enforced, and 680,000 American victims, we are experiencing slow-motion terrorism at the hands of illegal aliens. Our politicians are ignoring it. Political correctness and the cults of "multiculturalism and diversity" paralyze our law enforcement agencies. The NCLR, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Poverty Law Center and all the other ethnic victimology groups are part of the problem. The cities in America that have enacted "sanctuary" policies contribute to the death or victimization of their citizens.

Our president wants to make them legal and reward them. That makes every American, and those yet to be born, victims of slow-motion terrorism.

Are we as a nation tolerating this slow-motion terrorism to such an extent that we are submitting to insidious national suicide?

Dave Stoddard

They also pay taxes, contribute to our GNP, do jobs that we don't want to do, provide the labor necessary to keep businesses from relocating or outsourcing, bring experience and skills in the trades occupations that our schools aren't teaching; and buy our lottery tickets. Reality is that we are dependent upon them now and will become more dependent upon them in the future.

So, you are pro-illegal immigration. Thank you for clearing that up.
