So it looks like the fights at sporting events are our new form of shark attacks or car chases for the media to yap to...

Sad .. but it seems that way

I just saw a video clip of a brawl on a football field

I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out.

Interesting! I was picturing the same thing happening to NBA that happened to 'bush leagues' of hockey in the '60s.

But, hey, whadda I know??

By the way, the Clemson coach just gave the excuse that one of the factors of today's fight on the field (S. Carolina vs. Clem) was that the players were probably influenced by last night's game. Pitiful.

If you could see my face, you would know it's blue right now. That's how many times I've said it -- the beer guy was wrong and should be punished accordingly. I've NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER said he wasn't wrong or that he shouldn't be punished.

BUT, Artest was more wrong to leave the court, run into the stands, and to take matters into his own hands instead of allowing those in authority deal with beer guy. Force against another is only justified when it is used in self defense -- and then only to the extent necessary to stop the potential harm -- not any greater.

And just a technicality, but there likely was not an assault committed by beer guy. Assault is the fear of imminent harm. Battery is the suffering of the harm. Because Artest never saw beer guy wind up and throw the cup, there was no assault. Rather, beer guy battered Artest when he hit him with the cup. The terms are mixed up regularly.

You know, it's funny but I haven't heard anyone who is defending this bozo (these bozos) say anything about "self-defense" (as if Artest was in danger from a plastic cup). Rather, all the support is in favor of "retaliation." As if this is the "professional," "manly," "mature" or "responsible" thing to do.

I appreciate the fans and players on both sides for reminding us that a middle-aged bimbo dropping her towel in front of Terrell Owens is simply not an issue in the big scheme of things.

Baseballers and footballers get carried away sometimes..

LOL! Sometimes? MLB has fights that "clear the dugouts" about 20 times a year... Basketball maybe twice. Yet all I read is what thugs baskteball players are.

Any sport where the obnoxious fans are in that close of proximity to the action (throwing distance), is bound to have these kinds of incidents.

Some of you should go watch some kids sports such as AYSO soccer where the "fans" in this case the parents are in close proximity to the players/refs/coaches. I have seen plenty of brawls between parents and coaches, parents and refs, and yes even parents and kids.

What a racist comment from both of you characters....Don't they fight in almost every hockey game? I also remember a few hockey players in the late 70's taking it to some fans in the stands....All of you "Jimmy The Greeks" can go to hell, watch Golf, or is it difficult watching Vijay and Tiger dominate a once whiteman's game? Idiots.

8th row = $110/seat for the Pistons

That is terrible. I feel sorry for people who took their family to the game, paying outrageous prices, and getting caught in a riot.

I wonder --- maybe it was just beer behind the emotions and fighting. I wonder if ahead of time any of the beer throwers actually felt hatred at all --- how many of the fans were just caught up in the moment?

You gotta wonder about the mentality of these "fans." When you're throwing a chair at players, or even just dumping a beer or a tub of popcorn on them, you've crossed a huge line.

Looks like Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post has been reading this thread! ;)

Anyone who tuned into ESPN with 45.9 seconds remaining in the Pacers' persuasive 15-point victory must've thought the Vibe Awards had broken out.

When the fans get out of control .. it's the Security's job to deal with them

Which they obviously weren't doing and hadn't been doing --- this wasn't the first game where beer and objects have been thrown at the players.

The players are suspended --- which is fine --- but they need to arrest every single one of the fans who were throwing things. There was sure a lot of that going on even while the players were making their retreat to the locker room. The fine for the fans needs to be every bit as large as it is for the players and they can also lose work time while they sit in jail waiting for trial. As for security --- they also should be fined. Apparently they were standing together in one group -- not doing their jobs at all.

Yes --- the fans deserve some jail time and some very hefty fines. It looks like most of them are caught on tape --- so this could be interesting. I hope the law follows through and begins the arrests. Especially that fan who threw the first beer --- he did exactly what he intended to do.

I have no problem with that .. if a fan gets out of control and causes a riot .. they are equally responsible and should be held accountable for their actions

This is crazy. If a professional athlete cannot take the heat, then get the hell out of the kitchen. Fans throwing things, yes, it is wrong. But is HAPPENS! If every player decided that everytime they were 'disrespected' because someone threw something at them, then every sport would turn into WWE wrestling.

This is NOT the street. This is NOT the alley. Players are told over and over and over again to NOT go into the stands.

Artest got what he deserved. If I were commissioner, he'd get a lifetime ban only to return with professional psychiatric help. Just ask the Bulls why they got rid of this guy.
