The closet racists(or not so closet) come out. THe athlete-envious come out. The closet commies(envious of money) come out. The anti-accountability and anti-respect crowd come right out too(no one is responsible except the target of our animus.)

Yeah there are a lot of jealous closet racists rambling about, "thugs and rapists" and the purity of the game blah blah, they seem to have a primordial fear of any black man with a tatto and cornrolls. LOL. Then again there are plenty of FReepers who aren't bigotted in the least.

You're doing the right think by calling the bigots on it though. They get away with too much crap on here imho.

OHH ok.. jermaine Oniel was protecting artest from that short fat guy? Come on? Artest threw the first punch and Oniel came out of nowhere and sucker punched the guy in the face. These guys are animals. How did Jermaine "protect" Artest? Artest looked at the guy and threw a punch.

L.A. riots are now being held in sports arenas. "Why can't we all just get along?" It's the Jerry Springer show with play by play commentary and instant replay. Whoo hoo, the ratings are up through the roof!!!

Murders?

Dude, you're just making ish up. Jayson Williams moronic mishandling of a firearm is not a murder.

The only high profile cases besides that involving death have been football players(carruth, lewis, OJ-former player.)

What are you rambling on about bigot?

Drugs? Yeah, in teh 70s cocaine a much worse drug was in style. Now it's weed--hardly the worst drug out there. Vin Baker is an alcoholic, I suppose that's more Middle America, but it's worse than smoking weed because alcoholism is generally more destructive on your body and your life.

Jermaine O'niel - Artest- and Jackson shjould be out for the season! These players are uncontrollable-- it is only a metter of time before someone gets killed. zIf there was agun lying in the scorers tables what are the odds one of them would have picked it up. I would say 50% at least

These guys are animals, huh?

ANIMALS?

Come out and say it.

You're also mixing up(or not separating) the oncourt from the in-stands mayhem. O'Neal's punch was unnecessary, but those two came on the court looking to challenge Artest and got smoked. Too bad.

If I came to your job and started looking like I was about to punch you, I'm sure you'd just let me....

Your kidding right? Fans were throwing chairs for christssake. Half the people on this board with concealed carry permits might have drawn down on these so-called "fans" hurling bottles and chairs.

The Indiana roster was only 10-12 men vs about 20 thousand players and fans. I think they reasonably feared for their personal safety what with the bang up job security was doing.

there were fans of all colors throwing punches and beer(note the big heavy guy in grey shirt)the atletets are all black because thats basketball..it was not black vs white but the subculture of basketball that creates these players and fans(rapp-ghetto ) not saying this dosn't happen at other venues--football hockey but they are usually an individual or two..now then what creates the european soccer riots??punks, gangs etc

Yahoo news calls it a "low moment in NBA." Right. A low moment in an era of low moments.

what a bunch of spoiled, useless, moronic ex- or future- cons.

As ridiculous as you may think that sounds, there have been people who have been shot for flipping someone off or road rage. It happens, so I wouldn't test anyone if I were you.

I actually think Artest acted fine until he jumped into the stands-- he was pushed by Wallace --- he did not go after him-- he controlled himself and layed on the scorers table. That was a huge Step for Artest. Even contronting the fans in the stands is acceptable after being hit in the face. But throwing punches? Come on-- then he lost all credibility when he jacked that short guy on the court-- Biggest penalty ought to go to Jackson-- he looked like a madman-- then Oniel-- and finally Artest

No kidding. The people on Sportscenter are placing zero blame on the players. The players needed to show a little restraint - it's their job to play the game, not to mete out justice with the fans. So you're hit with a cup? Does that give you a reason to run up into the stands and start off a riot? The players should have shown enough sense just to get the hell off of the court.

The fans certainly aren't blameless, but throw an a$$hole like Artest into the mix, and you have players and fans who quickly become equal in fault. Hell, I played somewhat competitive soccer in high school, and I've been hit with things before. Does that mean I'm blameless if I hop the fence and run up to beat the crap out of the fan who threw it?

As an aside, I recorded the whole midnight Sportscenter on Tivo last night. It's 30 minutes of sheer unbelievability! I can't pull myself away! "What's that? It's a dustpan!"

You are sooo right! My family (2 daughters, son-in-law, spouse and I) attended the Pistons game at Conseco about this time last year.

We endured 2 hours of the most filthy, perverted screaming from about 10 drunk Pistons fans seated right behind us. They used language I have never heard uttered outloud in public.

There were many small scuffles around the arena during the game and security handled those first. Finally, about 15 minutes from the end of the game, security came and told the screaming drunks to shut up.

Ruined the entire evening for us.

I will stick with college sports.

Oh, you mean with all those "student athletes"?

The hypocrisy of college sports is the root of these problems.
