A dog named Dancer was rescued after surviving a 60-foot fall at a park in Michigan, the National Park Service said Thursday, marking the second time in less than two weeks that a canine has been found alive after plunging off a high cliff. The 3-year-old pooch was off her leash at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Wednesday when she fell off a cliff near Miners Castle onto a ledge about 60 feet below. Her owners were unable to find her and were even "convinced she had not survived," park officials said in a news release. Pictured Rocks Park Rangers...

The family dog of 13 years had to be put down. Her body was shutting down and nose cancer had taken its toll. She wouldn't eat and I had to carry her. I can't say enough good things about the local vets, C-Vets Emergency, and NC State K9 Oncology. They did so much for her and us during her time. RIP to the world's best GSD ever. Terra. Fans of ITV’s This Morning, a British daytime program, were in for a shock when 49-year-old guest Elizabeth Hoad “married” her golden retriever, Logan, live during the show. Hoad, who has had four failed engagements and has been on over 200 dates, told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that she’s found “the one.” Hoad explained that she has sworn off men completely after her last boyfriend turned out to be married. Given that she spends all her time with her dog, a six-year-old rescue, Hoad said that it only made sense to celebrate that love, gushing, “He’s saved me...
  • Report: Dog near controls likely caused pilot to crash plane

MONTICELLO, Iowa (AP) — Federal investigators say a small plane crash that killed a 90-year-old pilot near an eastern Iowa airport was likely caused by the pilot’s decision to allow his large dog near the flight controls. The final National Transportation Safety Board report says investigators don’t know for certain what caused the single-engine aircraft to go down in a cornfield in June 2017 near Monticello Regional Airport. However, the report says, the dog that weighed about 75 pounds likely came in “contact with the flight controls during landing, which resulted in the pilot’s loss of airplane control.”

Coinciding with the Pit Grave culture (4200-3600 years before our era), coming from Southern Europe, the Neolithic communities of the north-eastern Iberian Peninsula started a ceremonial activity related to the sacrifice and burial of dogs. The high amount of cases that are recorded in Catalonia suggests it was a general practice and it proves the tight relationship between humans and these animals, which, apart from being buried next to them, were fed a similar diet to humans'... The study analyses the remains of twenty-six dogs found in funerary structures from four sites and necropolises of the Barcelona region, and has...

(NEW YORK) — A New York City man is traveling to nearby animal shelters to primp pups that are need of forever homes — for free. Mark Imhof, 45, who started his grooming business in October, estimates he’s given on-the-house haircuts to about 50 dogs — many of whom have found adoptive families. “These are dogs,” Imhof told ABC News Thursday. “They want to love someone and I think when they have a crusty shell on them and things like that, it makes them unable to do so. When I can clean them up, you can see [their] eyes...

(HOUSTON) - The bond a man and his best friend shared was put on full display in Houston when a loyal dog waited patiently for weeks for his owner to come home after he was killed while working at a convenience store. Neighbors saw the German Shepherd waiting at the front gate to the apartment complex where he lived with his owner, 54-year-old Hatem Abuharbid, who was killed during a robbery on Feb. 7. "You could just tell that he was a lost dog," neighbor Cassandra Eubanks, who lives nearby, told ABC owned station KTRK-TV in Houston. "He would...

US Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) on Monday lashed out at Senate colleague and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over his support for real-estate mogul and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. In a tweet on Monday, McCaskill compared Cruz to a "lost puppy" hoping to scoop up Trump's followers if he implodes on the campaign trail. There's something unseemly about Cruz following Trump around like a lost puppy, hoping to get his leftovers when he finally flames out. - Claire McCaskill (@clairecmc) July 20, 2015 Cruz has recently cozied up to the real-estate magnate. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) reaffirmed her commitment to stay on as Democratic National Committee chairwoman in the aftermath of reports suggesting the party is souring over her leadership. “I was elected to a four-year term, and I will serve as DNC chair till Jan. 21, 2017,” she said to the Sun Sentinel. ADVERTISEMENT A Politico article published last month said Wasserman Schultz is losing the support of prominent Democrats, including President Obama. It also said the White House debated replacing her as DNC chair, going as far as selecting a candidate before deciding against the change. The report came...

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz signaled her intent to run an extremely negative national campaign against Republicans in the run-up to November’s midterm elections, claiming the GOP is “strangled by extremism” and calling its members “out of control.” Schultz, a TV-news regular not exactly known for her bipartisanship, has been all over the cable networks as November inches closer. The DNC chair appeared on MSNBC’s “Jose Diaz-Balart” on Monday. While repeatedly professing her desire to “work together” with Republicans to come to an agreement on immigration reform, Schultz tore into her congressional colleagues over their opposition to granting...

Speak, Fido: Device Promises Dog Translations A dog may be man's best friend, but if people ever figure out what dogs are really thinking, will the friendship sour? That's a risk that a few inventors in Europe are willing to take: They've received funding to develop "No More Woof," an electronic device that promises to analyze dogs' brain waves and translate a few of their thoughts into rudimentary English. It's still a work in progress, but once No More Woof is ready for the market, it will join a wide range of other scientific efforts aimed at "breaking the language...

Throughout centuries of war, dogs have been by service members' sides, whether they're helping save lives in the battlefield or helping them heal. And helping to heal is exactly what man's best friend is doing in the D.C. area. Since 1999, dogs at Walter Reed Army Medical Center -- and now at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir and Fort Meade -- have helped hundreds of wounded warriors in countless ways, and they continue to do so. The U.S. Army program is unique. Wounded warriors receive help while they work to train dogs who will one day be...
