After a nor’easter barrels up the East Coast of the US this weekend, the active weather pattern will bring another powerful storm to the eastern half of the U.S. and create a variety of nasty weather. According to the FOX Forecast Center, snow, flooding rain, damaging wind and severe weather are all in the forecast as the storm moves from the central US to the Great Lakes.

At least 18 people were shot, two of them fatally, during the first two days of the Christmas weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago. The weekend’s first shooting fatality occurred at 12:44 p.m. Saturday when a 28-year-old man was shot “in the 2400 block of West 55th Street” while on the sidewalk, CBS News reported. The shots were fired by someone inside a vehicle. The 28-year-old was struck in the head and transported to a hospital, where he died.

A record number of U.S. consumers shopped over Thanksgiving weekend this year, surpassing analysts’ initial expectations and topping 200 million shoppers for the first time ever. The five-day shopping period saw 200.4 million consumers shop this weekend, according to an annual survey released Tuesday by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics. In 2022, the same period set a record of 196.7 million shoppers.

At least 30 people were shot, three of them fatally, during the weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago. Breitbart News reported that one of the three weekend shooting fatalities was an 86-year-old man, who was shot and fatally wounded Saturday morning around 10:00 a.m. after getting out to his truck to retrieve something. The elderly man, Charles Hobson Sr., was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.

A popular Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania bar is temporarily closing its doors after violence rocked the busy neighborhood over the weekend, making owner Brian Vetere say enough is enough. Carson City Saloon locked its doors and turned off its lights this week, citing safety concerns for its customers and employees as the crime-riddled area saw multiple shootings. The establishment posted a statement to Facebook Monday explaining its decision to temporarily close its doors for the first time in its 17-year history.

President Biden issued a demand for tougher firearm restrictions Tuesday after a string of deadly shootings unfolded across the country over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Biden, 80, called for action while also marking the anniversary of last year’s July 4th parade massacre in Highland Park, Ill., in which seven people were slaughtered.

A shooting erupted hours after a local festival ended on Fourth of July weekend in Texas, leaving at least three people dead and eight others wounded, officials said. Violence broke out at about 11:40 p.m. Monday in the Como neighborhood in southwest Fort Worth, where 11 people were shot hours after the neighborhood’s annual ComoFest had ended, WFAA reported.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has teed up a vote for the weekend on the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan, ending debate late Thursday evening by filing cloture on the sweeping measure. While the final vote time remains unclear, the Senate is scheduled to come back into session on Saturday at noon, with lawmakers out of session on Friday for late Sen. Mike Enzi’s (D-Wyo.) funeral. Americans are expected to spend roughly $4.7 billion on gas during the Friday through Monday of Memorial Day weekend, according to GasBuddy, an app and website focused on finding real-time fuel prices. That breaks down to about $1.18 billion spent on gas each day, give or take $1 million, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, tells CNBC.
