  • The Trial of Susan B. Anthony For Illegal Voting (Great Story: Tea Party Like!)

The Anthony trial of 1873 helped answer the important question of whether women as "citizens" under the recently adopted Fourteenth Amendment were entitled, as one of the "privileges and immunities" that came with citizenship, to vote. The answer given by prim and conservative Justice Ward Hunt will surprise few, but the trial also shows Hunt with his hands full, not quite knowing how to shut up his feisty defendant. Read now about what "Aunt Susan" described in her diary as "the greatest outrage in judicial history!"

During the weeks before the final day of the campaign, both the Clinton camp and the media attacked Donald Trump for refusing to say he would automatically accept the outcome of the vote on Election Day. But now Clinton’s campaign chief is taking meetings with groups urging him to do just that by considering a challenge to the final vote in several of the key states that gave Trump the White House. http://resistancefeed.com/2016/11/23/clinton-campaign-looking-challenge-vote/
  • The DOJ is not going to conduct a vote audit based on your phoned-in outrage

For supporters of Hillary Clinton, the post circulating on Facebook and Reddit offers hope. The Justice Department, it claims, is “tallying calls” from people who want an audit of the 2016 election. And given the small margins that Donald Trump won by in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, a shift of about 55,000 votes is all that would be needed to change the outcome. The problem is, it’s bogus. The Justice Department doesn’t count up calls to determine whether it should launch an investigation. And they will not initiate a national audit — or force particular states to recount their results...

The New York Times’s election night coverage was a wide-ranging affair: live forecasts, an interactive map with real-time updates, an online chat between a handful of political reporters — not to mention more traditional reporting. But the drama of election night was also conveyed, in retrospect, by the changing headlines that topped The Times’s home page: 13 of them, in all.

A heated confrontation between a South Florida Starbucks customer and several employees is drawing national attention – and showing the continuing tension across the country since the election of Donald Trump. The viral video taken from the coffee shop across from the University of Miami campus on U.S. 1 in Coral Gables shows David Sanguesa arguing with a barista behind the counter, calling her "trash" and saying "Trump, Trump. You lost" while demanding his money back before again calling her "garbage" and "plain trash."

Colin Kaepernick is standing behind his decision not to vote in the presidential election or even register to take part in the democratic process, saying he can effect change in other ways besides through a ballot. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has knelt through the national anthem all season to protest police brutality and the treatment of minorities, drawing criticism and acclaim alike. He took more heat for not voting last week. “I thought a lot of different things about the process and what I could and couldn’t do,” he said Tuesday. “Once again, the system of oppression is what...

Clinton currently has 61,964,263 votes compared with Trump's 60,961,967 As Americans’ votes continue to be counted, Hillary Clinton‘s lead over Donald Trump in the popular vote has grown to more than 1 million people. According to the non-partisan Cook Political Report, Clinton currently has 61,964,263 votes compared with Trump’s 60,961,967. The president-elect said on Twitter Tuesday that he would have run a different campaign if the election was decided by popular vote and not the electoral college, and would have “won even bigger and more easily.”

PORTLAND, Ore. — More than 70 percent of the 112 protesters arrested in Portland last week didn’t vote in Oregon, according to state election records. The other approximately 30 percent did cast a ballot in Oregon or in another state. At least seventy-nine demonstrators either didn’t turn in a ballot or weren’t registered to vote in the state. Following Tuesday's presidential election of Donald Trump, thousands of people took to the streets in downtown Portland for five straight notes. The activity included at least one night that the police declared to be a riot, with more than $1 million in...

You know the big stuff already: Donald Trump won the presidency, defeating Hillary Clinton by bursting through her leaky blue firewall.... Meanwhile, here are three lower-profile results that are worth noting: (1) Oregon's Democratic Secretary of State went down to defeat, marking the first GOP victory in a statewide election in 14 years. More significantly, the loser of this race was known to many as the infamous bully who led the charge to fine a Christian-owned bakery $144,000 for declining to provide services to a same-sex wedding... (2) In Colorado, voters absolutely demolished a ballot initiative to create a government-run,...

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick may be the focus of an American political movement, but he has never been a voter, according to records obtained by The Sacramento Bee. The Bee reports that the Turlock native has not registered to vote anywhere in California since reaching the legal voting age in 2005. Nor did Kaepernick register in Nevada during his time as a college student in that state. [...] It had not previously been revealed that the quarterback skipped all elections, including the the 2008 and 2012 elections of the nation's first black president.

maybe this analysis hasn't been done yet, but I am not as skilled as some others here. If every state followed the same rules as Nebraska and Maine, what would be the electoral college result this cycle? I was able to find some analysis from 2012, and IIRC, the result would have been a narrow victory for Romney. Any thoughts?

A petition on Change.org calling for the Electoral College to elect Hillary Clinton as President has earned over half of the signatures needed for it to be sent to the governing body. The petition, launched on Wednesday after Donald Trump was elected President, calls for the Electoral College to “ignore their states’ votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton.” Although Trump won over the 270 necessary electoral votes to secure the Presidency, Clinton narrowly earned the nation’s popular vote. The Electoral College – which was first introduced in 1804 – is comprised of 538 electors. Each state’s number of...

Preliminary exit poll results show that while she won women by 12 points overall (Trump won men by the same margin, a historic gender gap),1 Clinton lost the votes of white women overall and struggled to win women voters without a college education in states that could have propelled her to victory.
