Human beings have always seen unidentified objects in the sky. From the prophet Ezekiel’s sighting of a flying wheel in 593 B.C., to the 1561 A.D. Battle over Nuremberg, Germany, to Kenneth Arnold’s “pie plate” UFOs spotted near Mt. Rainer, Washington, in June 1947, there are things above our heads that baffle us. Many of these unidentified flying objects appear to be intelligently controlled aircraft. Others, like the following sightings in California and Illinois, defy explanation.

Any pilot flying holidaymakers between Manchester and Ibiza must be prepared for outlandish sights. But perhaps nothing so apparently unworldly as this. The captain of a Thomas Cook airliner flying tourists back from the Spanish holiday island to the north of England reported a "near miss" with a "rugby ball"-shaped UFO, which passed within feet of his jet. A Saudi newspaper on Friday published a film showing what it described as an unidentified flying object (UFO) passing above the western town of Medina. Sada Arabic language daily said the film was captured by a Saudi man who happened to be near the Prophet’s Mosque around 9.00 pm local time (10.00 pm UAE time). “I was passing just near the mosque when I saw the object…I captured a film of it but I could not trace it as it split into two or three parts,” Fahd Al Harbi told the paper.
