  • [Vanity]Does anyone remember Al Franken on SNL?

Does anyone remember watching SNL when Al Franken was there? He was part of a duo called "Franken and Davis". The reason I bring it up, is because it bugs me that no one ever talks about this. When the announcer would introduce "Franken and Davis", he always added, "Brought to you by the American Communist Party. Sooner or later we will all be communist." That was the intro every time they appeared on SNL. The reaction of the crowd was always very hushed. It was almost like there was disbelief. I want someone in media to ask Al Franken...

Rosie O’Donnell says she’s more than willing to play White House chief strategist and former Breitbart News executive chairman Steve Bannon on Saturday Night Live. O’Donnell, who has had a decade-long public feud with President Donald Trump, was asked by a Twitter user if she would “take one for the team” and spoof Bannon following Melissa McCarthy’s turn on SNL as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. “I am here to serve,” O’Donnell responded. “Alec has trump – melissa has spice – i would need a few days to prepare – so if called – i will be ready.” @calvininsf...

The first trailer for Netflix’s Dear White People, an expanded retelling of the celebrated 2014 film of the same name, has arrived. The trailer shows a diverse group of students at the fictional, largely white Winchester University fill and often rail against the roles they’re put in, paving the way to both comedy and conflict in their “post-racial” world.

Sports Illustrated is releasing its Swimsuit issue next Monday, and sources tell us that it’s likely they will have three covers starring tennis champ Serena Williams, 63-year-old model Christie Brinkley, and possibly Kate Upton. Last year, the magazine also used three covers, which featured extra curvy model Ashley Graham, Hailey Clauson and mixed martial arts champ Ronda Rousey in body paint. Sources tell us that an appearance by Upton — whose Rookie of the Year pictures in the mag in 2011 helped make her a star — is still up in the air because of her diva demands. “There was...

  • Left Bashes Lady Gaga for Not Attacking Trump During Super Bowl Halftime Show

After much anticipation and speculation, pop mega-star Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl LI halftime show performance was largely devoid of partisan politics — much to the chagrin of myriad liberal media and entertainment reporters. Journalists from some of the country’s biggest news outlets raked the “Bad Romance” singer over the coals for failing to bash President Donald Trump’s immigration and national security policies, specifically his controversial refugee moratorium. Below is a roundup of some of the most disappointed reactions from a liberal media upset that Lady Gaga delivered a non-political Super Bowl performance clearly intended to entertain all Americans. 1. Los...

Super Bowl LI on Sunday night was as close to a politics-free experience as a football fan could have hoped for, with even halftime performer Lady Gaga eschewing political talk in favor of high-energy showmanship — but several big-name brands couldn’t help but include overt political messaging in their Big Game advertising.

"Tears in Rain", also referred to as "The C-Beams Speech", is a brief monologue delivered by replicant Roy Batty (portrayed by Rutger Hauer) in the Ridley Scott film Blade Runner. The final form, altered from the scripted lines and improvised by Hauer on the eve of filming, has entered popular culture as "perhaps the most moving death soliloquy in cinematic history" and is an often quoted piece of science fiction writing.
  • RANKED: The 10 worst movies to win the best picture Oscar — and what should have won

Winning the best picture Oscar doesn't just signal that a movie is regarded by Hollywood as the top achievement in the medium for the year; it can help cement a movie's status, with past winners that have gone on to become classics like "The Godfather," "Lawrence of Arabia," and "On the Waterfront." But the Academy voters don't always get it right. Tucked away in the 88 years of Oscar ceremonies are best picture winners that quickly vanished from the zeitgeist, never to be heard from again. That's often because they weren't as good as originally thought. It's probably too early...

Sony Pictures Classics’ The Comedian, which critics have thrown apples at with a 24% RT rating, is suffering with $950K at 848 sites. Sean Penn was originally set to direct Robert De Niro with Kristen Wiig back in October 2011 from Art Linson and Comedy Central roastmaster Jeffrey Ross’ script. Mike Newell stepped in when the movie secured its financing, but then stepped out due to scheduling. By July 2015, Taylor Hackford was aboard to steer the ship. SPC tried to give this movie a push during awards season, premiering at November’s AFI fest, but the pic didn’t catch on...

An Italian man allegedly shot dead the driver who killed his wife after changing his cover picture to Russell Crowe in Gladiator. Fabio Di Lello is accused of killing Italo D’Elisa, weeks before the 22-year-old was due to appear in court charged with the manslaughter of his wife. Roberta Smargiassi, 33, had been riding a moped last summer when the dead driver ploughed into her after allegedly jumping a red light. Di Lello had posted a picture of Russel Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius as his cover photo on Facebook in months before the shooting. In the film, the character...

FReeper fave Blazing Saddles is airing tonight on Turner Classic Movies at 10:30 p.m. EST. This FR thread from 2015 posited that Blazing Saddles could not be made today due to political correctness.Fortunately in 1974 Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, Alex Karras, et al, were still free to make this comedy classic. The showing of Blazing Saddles is part of TCM's 31 Days of Oscar A to Z which started Wednesday.TCM airs films unedited, so all the jokes should be heard/seen.
