Lionsgate and the A+E network say they won’t film TV shows and movies in North Carolina if the state doesn’t repeal its new LGBT law. Along with Fox, Miramax and The Weinstein Company, the entertainment producers have voiced opposition to House Bill 2, which replaces local ordinances with a statewide nondiscrimination law that doesn’t include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories.

Another month, another superhero movie staggers to the silver screen, lurching under the weight of its own self-importance, groaning with the expectations of fans, and burdened with a nine-figure marketing budget. I am, of course, talking about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, to give it its full, clunkingly portentous title. Can we all please grow up? Can we acknowledge that Marvel and DC have scraped right though the bottom of the barrel? Can we call time on superhero films? Films which are too dark for kids the comics were originally written for, yet too dumb for any thinking adult.

James Noble, the actor best known for his role as the absent-minded governor on the hit 1980s sitcom “Benson,” died on Monday at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut. He was 94. His death was confirmed by Douglas Moser, a spokesman for the family, who said that Mr. Noble, who lived in Norwalk, had a stroke last week. From 1979 to 1986, Mr. Noble played Eugene Gatling, the well-meaning but somewhat bumbling governor of an unnamed state, on the ABC series “Benson.”

Just thinking about the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy worked on an assembly line in a candy factory brings a smile to my face. Remembering the family spirit and wholesomeness of other shows like Father Knows Best, Leave It to Beaver, and The Donna Reed Show still warms my heart. These classic television programs made us laugh and cry without the sex and violence that is so commonly associated with television today. No wonder the interest in TV nostalgia is growing by leaps and bounds. Many of us enjoy revisiting the quality programs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's....
