An American man has been arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend in a Mexican resort town, the country's federal police said Sunday. The suspect was identified by Mexican authorities as 59-year-old John Loveless. His hometown was not given. A police statement said Loveless was detained at the Cancun airport before he was to board a flight to Atlanta.

The New York Daily News is a viciously left-wing newspaper that carries a special grudge against Donald Trump. It therefore offers its readers a complete guide to fleeing President Trump's America. So how does a Trump foe make the big move to more progressive pastures in 2016? And of all the Trump-free countries, which is best for a soon-to-be-expat? The Daily News rates five top prospects for emigration, beginning with Singapore: As a bonus, Singapore boasts the No. 1 most efficient health care system in the world, as rated by Bloomberg. The U.S. ranks at No. 44, and could dip...

The US Department of Justice joined with plaintiffs suing to prohibit the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) from allowing states to include proof of citizenship on voter registration forms. Further, the DOJ barred the EAC from hiring lawyers to defend the agency in the lawsuit. Bowing to provisions in Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution, the Tenth Amendment, and the Seventeenth Amendment, the EAC consented to permit states to regulate voter eligibility in their jurisdiction. The League of Women Voters objected and filed suit demanding a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order, arguing that "requiring proof of citizenship presents...

Eyeing the Latino vote, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sought to distinguish herself from both fellow Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders and GOP front-runner Donald Trump by taking a pro-illegal immigrant stance. "To those swayed by Trump's plan to build a wall to keep Mexicans from coming to America I would like to know 'who will clean our homes and mow our lawns?'" she asked. "These are the jobs that Trump and Sanders want to reserve for Americans. But do Americans really want these jobs, even at $15 an hour?" Clinton professed to "understand the GOP's racist desire to block...

Donald Trump's bid to become president received a boost from an unexpected source when racist loon Al Sharpton promised to leave the country should Trump be elected. According to Sharpton, his pledge to leave the country "is a desperate plea to the people who love me to spare my having to move out" and "would save the government the expense of having to deport me along with all the other so-called undesirables Trump has threatened to oust." Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski predicted that Sharpton's vow "will help Donald's efforts to win votes. Getting endorsements from friends is nice, but...

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) has introduced legislation that would fund lawyers who assist illegal aliens to avoid deportation. "Look, these immigrants have undertaken lengthy and sometimes dangerous journeys to get here," Reid said. "It would be a shame to see all of that effort go to waste just because they've entered the country illegally. There are a variety of stratagems that lawyers can use to help these people evade that fate. But lawyers won't work for free and these immigrants are too poor to pay their fees. My bill will put the financial burden where it belongs—on the...

More than 100 schools have been closed in Bangalore after reports that another leopard was sighted on the outskirts of the Indian city. Residents were asked to stay indoors and police and forest officials were trying to track the elusive cat. A male leopard entered a city school on Sunday and injured six people who tried to capture it. A scientist and a forestry employee were among those mauled during the 10-hour-long effort to corner the animal.

President Barack Obama is about to unveil an ambitious plan for a "21st century clean transportation system." And he hopes to fund it with a tax on oil. Obama aides told POLITICO that when he releases his final budget request next week, the president will propose more than $300 billion worth of investments over the next decade in mass transit, high-speed rail, self-driving cars, and other transportation approaches designed to reduce carbon emissions and congestion. To pay for it all, Obama will call for a $10 "fee" on every barrel of oil, a surcharge that would be paid by oil...
  • Cadillac Is Killing Its Pricey ELR Plug-In Hybrid

Customers called it “the $75,999 Volt.” Cadillac has reportedly opted to cancel any plans to continue producing its ELR plug-in hybrid coupe after watching the luxury hybrid’s sales fall last year. According to Automotive News, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen confirmed last week that the General Motors GM -2.46% division does not plan a follow-up to the first generation of ELRs that launched at the end of 2013. The trade publication noted that ELR sales dropped 22% last year to only 1,024 vehicles, as dealers complained about the car’s high price tag of nearly $76,000 (with shipping).

Volvo has made a pretty bold statement this week. It says it wants to make things so that no one dies in a Volvo or because of a collision with one by the year 2020. "If you meet Swedish engineers, they're pretty genuine," said Lex Kerssemakers, CEO of Volvo Cars North America. "They don't say things when they don't believe in it." A pretty serious lot it seems. People who say what the mean and mean what they say. "With the development of full autonomy we are going to push the limits of automotive safety," says Volvo safety engineer Erik...

  • Vanity: Moving to NW Arkansas, Advice?

    01/14/2016 3:26:52 AM PST · by Johnny B. · 55 replies
I just accepted a job in Bentonville AR, for a company supporting Walmart. I'm moving "blind", as I've never been to that area. I would welcome any useful comments or suggestions about moving to, and living in, the Bentonville area. In particular, any suggestions about good or bad neighborhoods as I start looking for a place to live. I'd prefer to rent a house rather than an apartment, but I have a large dog (70lb husky mix), and I realize that may make it more difficult to find a place. Thanks in advance!

In 2010, researchers and conservators from the Antarctic Heritage Trust of New Zealand made quite the interesting discovery. Hidden beneath the hut legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton used during his 1908 Antarctica expedition (known as the Nimrod) were five crates covered in ice: three containing whisky and two containing scotch! This wasn’t the only discovery made by the Trust either; they also found a notebook and photos from similar expeditions on the continent. From: Youtube / Shackleton Whisky After the whisky was discovered, one crate was sent to New Zealand where it was thawed and displayed for the public at Canterbury Museum. Three of the bottles...

Posters branded with the emblem of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Kabul, have sprung up around Afghanistan trying to warn locals off choosing the nation as a target for migration. Debunking common myths about life in Germany which the authorities believe serve to make the country seem more appealing to Afghans, the posters are stark with their blank-canvas design with Arabic glyphs spelling out key messages in local languages Dari and Pashto.
