The semi-prestigious University of Illinois system is rapidly becoming famous for its bizarro penchant for hiring terrorists as professors. Last month, the statewide board of trustees cleared the way for the flagship campus in Urbana-Champaign to rehire 1970s-era Symbionese Liberation Army terrorist James Kilgore, a convicted murderer who participated in a 1975 bank robbery during which bank customer Myrna Opsahl was shot and killed. The 42-year-old mother of four bled to death on the bank floor. Now, Chicago businessman Richard Hill has notified officials at the University of Illinois at Chicago that he will rescind a pledge to donate $6.5...

PORTLAND, Ore. .....The protest had many elements of the Occupy Portland movement, which galvanized protesters in the city and formed a network of people who still communicate via mass text message. As with Occupy, the vast majority of protesters preached peace, but a fringe group of people — some covering their faces with black bandannas — advocated violence and confrontations with police. And like Occupy, the original protest drew a disparate group of people together, not all of whom agreed with one another. Military veterans called for peace, a communist group called for the overthrow of capitalism, and a group...

Pilots around the United States have reported a surge in near-collisions and other dangerous encounters with small drones in the past six months at a time when the Federal Aviation Administration is gradually opening the nation’s skies to remotely controlled aircraft, according to FAA records. Since June 1, commercial airlines, private pilots and air-traffic controllers have alerted the FAA to 25 episodes in which small drones came within a few seconds or a few feet of crashing into much larger aircraft, the records show. Many of the close calls occurred during takeoffs and landings at the nation’s busiest airports, presenting...

The Fox 9 Investigators learned that of three men recruited from Minnesota to fight for either ISIS or al-Shabaab all once held jobs at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and each hold security clearances that gave them access to parts of the airport a traveler will never see. When exactly these men were radicalized is unclear. The good news: It doesn't appear the airport was ever their intended target. The bad news: Experts fear that scenario may be just a matter of time. Side-by-side with a future terrorist It's like a small city that never really sleeps. It's in constant...

The Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim American Society are each registering their outrage over reportedly being designated terrorist organizations by the United Arab Emirates. The two American groups were listed alongside the Islamic State group, Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood branches, as well as European Muslim groups in Italy, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Finland, Britain’s Cordoba Foundation and the Muslim Association of Britain. The full list, numbering 83 groups, was approved by the UAE cabinet Saturday and was posted by the official news agency WAM. CAIR described its inclusion on the terrorism list as “shocking and bizarre” and...

China has successfully tested a homemade laser defense system specially targeting small-scale drones flying at low attitude. The machine is able to shoot down various small aircraft within a two-kilometer radius and can do so in five seconds after locating its target, said a statement released Sunday by the China Academy of Engineering Physics, one of the system's co-developers. Characterized by its speed, precision and low noise, the system is designed to destroy unmanned, small-scale drones flying within an altitude of 500-m and at a speed below 50m/s, it said. The new laser system, which will either be installed or...

This twitter post showed Zehat Bibeau with what appears to be a Winchester lever action rifle. At first, it was unclear if this were the same firearm that he used to shoot Cpl. Cirillo. The BBC quickly came up with an identification of the firearm used - a Winchester lever action shotgun! From the BBC: He said police were trying to piece together how Zehaf-Bibeau acquired a Winchester lever-action shotgun, as he was banned from owning firearms due to his criminal convictions. Then the Ottowa Sun took a shot at the subject. From the Ottowa Sun: Police still don't...

The Metropolitan Opera will be performing an opera based on the murder of wheelchair bound Jewish American businessman Leon Klinghoffer at the hands of Palestinian terrorists. An opera that humanizes terrorism is bad enough but performing it in the murder victim’s hometown seems deliberately offensive. The performance will not occur without protest though.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) said Tuesday nightthat U.S. border officials have caught “at least 10″ Islamic State fighters or people with ties to the group as they tried to enter the U.S. through Mexico,a claim that was immediately disputed by the Obama administration. “I know that at least 10 ISIS fighters have been caught coming across the Mexican border in Texas,”Hunter said on Fox News Tuesday night. “There’s nobody talking about it.” Rep. Did the referees cross the line? Kansas City Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah came up with a big play during Monday night's win over the New England Patriots, as he intercepted a Tom Brady pass and took it to the house for a touchdown. However, once he reached the end zone, Abdullah dropped to his knees and did this ["pray"]: Abdullah is a practicing Muslim and it's common for people of that faith to pray from their knees. However, this drew a flag from the officials for excessive celebration. But should it have? FOX Sports NFL rules expert Mike Pereira pointed...

Oklahoma got a dose of peace yesterday, when Alton Nolen, apparently a Muslim convert, beheaded a co-worker at the food company where he worked. He attacked a second woman and would have killed her too, except that the company’s COO has a gun and knows how to use it. This could actually be a case of workplace violence, as the attack occurred immediately after Alton had been fired. (For what, has not been reported.) Nolen had a colorful criminal record, which makes one wonder how he got a job at all when millions are unemployed. Paul has written about the...

Naturally the first reaction of the authorities is there was no link to terrorism. Of course. A knife-wielding man barged into an Oklahoma food distribution plant and stabbed two workers — one fatally — before an off-duty cop took down the attacker. Alton Nolen beheaded a woman at Moore’s Vaughan Foods, CNN reported, and tried to kill another during the Thursday afternoon attack. Moore police would not immediately confirm the attack as a beheading. Officials told CNN there was no immediate link to terrorism. Police said the 30-year-old drove to the warehouse around 4:30 p.m. and attacked the first two people...

The number of Europeans joining Islamist fighters in Syria and Iraq has risen to more than 3,000, the EU's anti-terrorism chief has told the BBC. Gilles de Kerchove also warned that Western air strikes would increase the risk of retaliatory attacks in Europe. US-led forces have launched nearly 200 air strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq since August and on Monday began targeting IS in Syria. The UK parliament is due to vote on possible air strikes in Iraq on Friday. IS has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria in recent months. Mr de Kerchove said the...
