A massive brawl between two rival high schools was caught on video, so now police officers are looking for all the students connected to the fight. It happened inside a Raising Canes and an In-N-Out Burger near Ann Road and U.S. 95. The graphic images were taken Friday night after a football game between Arbor View and Centennial high schools. Employees from both restaurants told 8 News NOW that the area is a popular hangout spot for high schoolers on game night, but they've never seen anything like Friday's brawl happen. People in the community are shocked. "How just a...

Just read that the 49rs are starting Colon Kaepernick against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. While I am a Dallas Cowboys fan living here in TX, I was once a season ticket holding Buffalo Bills fan during the Jim Kelly days back in NYS. It would bring me great pleasure to see the Bills - in their Red, White, and Blue uniforms, welcome Mr. I Hate America back to the NFL! Go BILLS!

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva drew a line in the sand Monday with regard to the LSU-Florida game that was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew. The teams both play out-of-conference games on Nov. 19 and that date had been proposed for a possible makeup in Gainesville, but Alleva made clear on Monday that LSU intends to play in Tiger Stadium on that day. “We are going to have a home game on Nov. 19,” Alleva said.

Jabrill Peppers might be more than Mr. Everything for Michigan. He could be Mr. Heisman, too. Peppers ran for a career-high two touchdowns and set up another score with a 63-yard scamper in his return to his native New Jersey and No. 4 Michigan routed Rutgers 78-0 on Saturday night in a game in which the Scarlet Knights were limited to 22 yards total yards and two first downs.

The National Football League has sent a memo to team owners seeking to ease concerns about the ratings decline that has hit football this fall. Through the first four weeks of the season, NFL viewership has declined 11%, and among the crucial adults 18-49 demographic that advertisers covet, ratings are down 12%.

The Chargers stadium ballot measure is falling far short of the support needed for approval on Nov. 8 and backing for the initiative is shrinking instead of growing, according to a Union-Tribune/10News poll released Friday. The survey shows 41 percent of likely voters say they are certain to vote against Measure C and 36 percent say they are certain to vote for it. The remaining 23 percent describe themselves as “not certain.” If uncertain voters are removed from the results, the measure is opposed by 53 percent and supported by 47 percent, far short of the two-thirds support — 66.7...

Anyone who has spent any time on the gridiron — even at a young age — likely knows the typical punishments a coach will dole out if his rules aren’t followed. There are “suicides,” a grueling running exercise in which participants have to run to the 20-yard line, touch it, then run back to the end zone (then the 30, then the 40, etc.).
  • Cop Saves Suicidal Man by Talking Football, Hatred of Cowboys

Nothing brings together people like football. When a police officer responded to a call of a suicidal man and found him sitting on the guardrail of a bridge early Saturday morning, he struck up a conversation with the man. The man was crying and told the Columbia Police Department Master Patrol Officer Michael Blackmore he was tired of living, according to The State. Then the subject matter turned to sports. lackmore asked the man what his favorite NFL team was, and the man said the Washington Redskins. Blackmore told the man he'd definitely pull for the Redskins when they play...
  • Florida-LSU Football Game Saturday Postponed Due to Hurricane Matthew

As Hurricane Matthew pushes north with the Central Florida area square in its sights, the Florida Gators won't be taking the football field this weekend as scheduled. The Southeastern Conference announced that the game Saturday between UF and the LSU Tigers will be postponed. The teams will attempt to reschedule the game for a later date, however they do not share the same bye week later in the month. Florida is off the 22nd, LSU the 29th. The decision came after U.S. Sen. David Vitter, a Republican from Louisiana, wrote a letter to Florida Gov. Rick Scott urging him to...

So Conor Gillaspie in 2016 is Marco Scutaro from 2012 or Travis Ishikawa from 2014 or Cody Ross from 2010, at least for one enormous Wild-Card game and that means it could go on and on again… And Madison Bumgarner in 2016 is… Madison Bumgarner, the perpetual postseason legend. That’s a two-paragraph summary of the Giants’ scintillating 3-0 Wild-Card victory over the Mets tonight, and yes, obviously, the patterns and connections from the previous three Giants postseason trips are impossible to ignore. You know who probably understands this better than anybody? That’d be the Cubs, who now face the Giants...

  • Ratings Fumble for NFL Surprises Networks, Advertisers

    Wall Street Journal ^ | Ocotber 6, 2016 | Joe Flint
The NFL has been sacked for a loss. Once considered immune to the audience erosion plaguing the television industry, ratings for the National Football League have tumbled through the first four weeks of the season. TV networks have bet heavily on sports in general, and the NFL in particular, because of the must-see value of their content. While more viewers are watching commercial-free streaming services like Netflix or recording shows on DVRs and skipping the ads, sports is still primarily watched live, making it valuable to advertisers.
  • Shock poll: A third of NFL TV viewers boycotting games because of Colin Kaepernick-led protests

It's the Kaepernick Effect, stupid. The alarming fall in NFL TV ratings this season is partly because of fan anger over on-field protests by Colin Kaepernick and other players of the American flag/national anthem, according to pollster Rasmussen Reports.
