The state’s attorney report on the horrific murders at the Sandy Hook Elementary School by shooter Adam Lanza found no “conclusive motive” for his actions but did document unsettling facts about the 20-year-old killer, including computer files he kept on the rights of pedophiles, a movie about man/boy love, instant messages concerning “homosexual fantasies,” numerous mass murder documents, and a computer game entitled “School Shooting.”In “School Shooting,” an amateur computer game, “the player controls a character who enters a school and shoots at...

On Monday's The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC's Richard Wolffe mocked NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre for asserting a year ago that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," by using the example of Antoinette Tuff, who last August heroically talked a gunman in a school into surrendering. Wolffe treated one exceptional and unlikely case as if it proved LaPierre wrong as he awarded Tuff the show's "person of the year" award. Wolffe:

Police in southern Colorado say they thwarted a school shooting plot by two teenagers, one of whom idolized mass shooters, just a week after a student opened fire in the halls of a suburban Denver high school. Police Chief Charles Glorioso said Friday that the department’s school resource officer got a tip Thursday that two boys, ages 15 and 16, planned to carry out the attack at Trinidad High School after winter break. [Snip] Glorioso said investigators learned the 15-year-old had been bullied and had said he idolized the Columbine High School and Colorado theater shooters.

CENTENNIAL—Democrats have long insisted the state’s new gun laws were passed to help stop mass shootings, but Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday that the measures did nothing to prevent a teen gunman from storming Arapahoe High School. In an interview on CBS-TV’s “Face the Nation,” the Democratic governor was asked why the laws failed to avert Friday’s shooting at the suburban high school. “You actually passed some pretty tough gun laws out there in Colorado after those other incidents happened, and yet they continue to happen,” said moderator Bob Schieffer. Hickenlooper responded that Coloradans “care deeply” about two things: protecting...

The mainstream media is showing its collective bias as usual in the recent reporting over the Colorado school shooting last week. At the Arapahoe High School, eighteen year old Karl Halverson critically wounded one female student (who is still in a coma) before taking his own life. He was armed with a shotgun, three molotov cocktails, and a machete and it appears he was after the school librarian, Tracy Murphy, who was the debate coach. It seems that Halverson got kicked off the team and wanted revenge. As the media frenzy continues over the story, a few facts are being...

Right-wing politics are key to a murderer’s motivations; leftism must be ignored.Let me venture a guess, and wager that you have heard very little about the political preference of the young man who, on Friday, walked into his high school and tried to murder his teacher. On the face of it, this is a blessing, for in all but the most extreme cases a murderer’s ideological proclivities are wholly irrelevant to his crime. The “why” really matters when a terrorist group shoots up a mall, because the “why” explains the action. But when a man bears a grudge against his...

Coming as it did on the weekend of the one-year anniversary of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting that killed 26, plus the killer, and wounded two more, it is not surprising that the media downplayed or ignored aspects of the Friday the 13th school shooting in Centennial, Colorado, just miles away from both Columbine and Aurora, the scenes of two other horrific mass shootings. But this latest incident offered a couple of narratives that the media preferred to ignore. The shooter was Karl Pierson, an 18-year-old, described as very bright, and an excellent debater, who had had run-ins with his...

Colorado School Shooter Appears to be Anti-Gun Socialist Based on Reports Karl Pierson is shown in a Facebook photo. The Denver Post appears to have published some interesting information about Karl Pierson, the 18 year old high school student suspected of shooting a classmate yesterday. According to the Post, it appears Pierson did not like Republicans and had strong opinions on several political social issues, Pierson also appears to mock Republicans on another Facebook post, writing “you republicans are so cute” and posting an image that reads: “The Republican Party: Health Care: Let ‘em Die, Climate Change: Let ‘em Die, Gun...

To many of his neighbors, Colorado school gunman Karl Pierson was the wholesome boy next door who liked achievement and ran on the cross country team. He even worked on an Eagle Scout project two years ago. -snip- "He was a weird kid," Davis said. "He's a self-proclaimed communist, just wears Soviet shirts all the time." Pierson became easily aggravated, "always liked to be right" and didn't like losing, Davis said.

The 17-year-old student shot in the head during the Colorado school shooting is still in critical condition. Claire Davis, a senior at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, was shot at point blank range by fellow student Karl Pierson yesterday afternoon. Pierson had entered the school armed with a shotgun and petrol bombs, seemingly intent on killing his debate team coach Tracy Murphy. Claire's father said earlier today that his daughter was 'not doing very well' after having surgery. The popular teenager would have had no time to get out of the way as Pierson entered the school and started shooting...

Colorado gunman Karl Pierson, who seriously injured a 17-year-old girl when he opened fire at his school, supported tougher gun laws. The 18-year-old, who had been dropped from the debate team, was said to have had strong views on politics and gun control, classmates said. Pierson was also allegedly suspended from the school in September for making threats against the team coach, Tracy Murphy, believed to have been the target for Friday's attack. 'He had very strong beliefs about gun laws and stuff,' junior Abbey Skoda told the Denver Post. The paper reported that Pierson had once posted an image...

When we look at the Sandy Hook school shooting, are there actual public policies that could prevent, or at least reduce such events? Are there policies that could mitigate the amount of killing? The answer to that question is a clear and surprising yes. No, I am not talking about using the school shootings to punish Tea Party members who like guns. The "Gun safety proposals" (if you are on the left) or "Citizen Disarmament proposals" (if you are a second amendment supporter) would have done nothing to prevent Sandy Hook. Nor would proposals to ban violent video games...
