Student leaders wrote an open letter demanding that Clemson University create an LGBTQ safe space on campus to rectify the school’s alleged callousness toward such students. In the letter, which was published in The Tiger, the coalition declares that “a permanent space must be allocated to the LGBTQ+ community” because “incoming LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented students enter campus with the deck stacked against them.”

A Clemson administrator has proposed requiring student government candidates to pass an “intercultural competency” test before being permitted to run for or hold office. The “intercultural competency” test requirement for Student Government candidates who wish to run for office was just one of the ideas Altheia Richardson, Clemson’s Director of the Gantt Multicultural Center, proposed in a recent presentation to Clemson Undergraduate Student Government (CUSG) Senate. As an alternative, Richardson also suggested group training for CUSG members once elected.

On March 9th, it passed the Judiciary Constitutional Laws Subcommittee.On 21 March, it passed the full committee with a vote of 15 to 7.  On Wednesday, April 5th, it passed the House. Hot on the heels of the news that Clemson University is spending more than $25,000 on “diversity education” for faculty members, administrators have revealed a mandatory diversity course for new students. Chief Diversity Officer Lee Gill made the announcement in an email to students addressing the “efforts to create an even more welcoming and inclusive environment” promised by President James Clements.

Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain released a joint statement on Tuesday urging President Donald Trump to bolster ground efforts in Syria. "As part of a broader strategy, we urge the President to take greater military action to achieve our objectives, including grounding the Syrian air force and establishing safe havens inside Syria to protect Syrians,” the statement reads. “There will never be a diplomatic solution as long as Assad dominates the battlefield,” according to McCain, the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman, and Graham, who chairs an appropriations subcommittee.

Among voters in the Palmetto State, the poll found Graham had a 40 percent disapproval rate and a 46 percent approval rate. Overall, only two other senators — both Republicans — were more unpopular than Graham. McConnell, R-Kentucky, was the most unpopular senator, with a 47 percent disapproval rating in his home state and a 44 percent approval rating. Forty-three percent of Arizona voters disapprove of their U.S. Sen. John McCain, while 51 percent approve.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the late Justice Antonin Scalia were honored with Allegheny College’s Prize for Civility in Public Life in Washington Monday. CHARLESTON, SC Dylann Roof, a white supremacist from the Columbia area, pleaded guilty on Monday to nine murder charges in state court for the slayings of nine victims at an African-American church in Charleston. GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - State health officials say six more people died of flu in South Carolina during the last flu season.
