There has been a recent surge in conversions to Zoroastrianism among Kurds at home and abroad. Andaz Hawezi, chief of the Zoroastrian Temple in Sweden says thousands have joined the faith. In 2011 he was elected to lead the temple. Zoroastrianism is one of the world’s oldest religions to which most Kurds trace their ancestral faith. Hawezi says not all the new converts or followers are Kurds. There are Arabs, Turks, Persian, Swedish, Polish, British and other nationalities. “We hope to come back to Kurdistan. That’s why we named the Temple Kurdish Zoroastrian.” Hawezi says. The Temple in Sweden is...

When Brahmachari Vrajvihari Sharan led his first worship service in his new job as a Hindu chaplain Sunday, he knew his audience. As the service began, he asked worshipers to clear their minds. “Close all the tabs that are open, just as you would do to a Firefox window,” he said. The comparison — of a spiritual mindset to an Internet browser — worked at once. More than 40 college students, many of whom had been up until 3 a.m. the Saturday night before this 9 a.m. service, chuckled appreciatively and fell into a reverent silence. This is Sharan’s new...

OKLAHOMA CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - After a black mass in Oklahoma City on August 15, a woman used a crucifix to murder her daughter. Juanita Gomez of Oklahoma City told authorities she believed her daughter was "possessed" by Satan. Police showed up to the Gomez house Saturday, August 27, on a welfare check to find the daughter, Geneva Gomez, lying in the form of a cross with a large crucifix resting on her chest. ChurchMilitant.com obtained the affidavit released by the courts earlier this week. The affidavit reads: "Juanita stated she punched her daughter (Geneva Gomez) repeatedly and forced a crucifix...

BOWLING GREEN, MO (ChurchMilitant.com) - In early August, a self-proclaimed Wiccan Catholic smeared a local Bowling Green Catholic church with her own feces. On Monday, August 22, she was found dead in her apartment from an apparent suicide. The local coroner, Jim Turner, has withheld the details of 54-year-old Linda Howard's death, only saying it looked like a suicide and that he would release details at a later date. Howard, who vandalized St. Clement Catholic Church, told police she committed the act because she was angry with God. The parish priest, Fr. Bill Peckmen, posted a message on his Facebook...

According the the local news service NewsOK, hundreds of Catholics met together for a mass service on the lawn outside the civic centre before the satanic service took place at the theatre inside the centre. A Catholic church in a small Missouri town suffered a terrible act of vandalism last weekend, in which human feces were spread throughout the church interior, including on the Blessed Sacrament within the tabernacle, sacred vessels, and the Bible. Sacred oils were also poured out on the floor, and wine was poured on sacred linens and vestments. The woman who confessed to police to having perpetrated the crime said she was both a practitioner of Wicca and a parishioner of the Catholic church she vandalized. This weekend, the local bishop led a special ritual of purification for the church.

SALEM, Mass. —It’s a hot summer night, and leaders of the Satanic Temple have gathered in the crimsonÂ-walled living room of a Victorian manse in this city renowned for its witch trials in the 17th century. They’re watching a sepia-toned video, in which children dance around a maypole, a spider crawls across a clown’s face and eerie, ambient chanting gives way to a backward, demonic voice-over. The group chuckles with approval. On Monday, the group plans to introduce its After School Satan Club to public elementary schools, including one in Prince George’s County, petitioning school officials to allow them to...

Ad stands for rehab facilities with the particular slogan ‘Say no to drugs – say yes to life’ in Germany are under serious suspicion of being nothing more than a Scientology recruitment scheme, police warn. The sect is illegal in Germany. The enigmatic group, which believes our human souls have alien beginnings, does not enjoy the same legal status everywhere. In the United States it boasts dozens of Hollywood A-listers among its members and biggest donors. Not so in Germany, where the religious sect has been deemed “unconstitutional” since 1997 by domestic security, despite its existence there since the 1970s....

After decades of coercion, former Scientologist Laura DeCrescenzo is suing the Church of Scientology for allegedly forcing her to have an abortion. It was 1991 when 12-year-old DeCrescenzo said she signed a contract promising “eternal devotion to a religious order – not just for this lifetime, but for all future lifetimes,” according to ABC7. As her parents were devout scientologists, they supported her decision to move to the Scientology’s Pacific Area Command Base, despite her young age. Yet when she became pregnant at 17, DeCrescenzo’s new home would become her prison. She said she was immediately pressured into aborting the...

Five months after Scientology was banned in the Russian Federation, authorities have arrested a member of the sect for stealing 130 million rubles, and donating the money to the "church." In November 2015, a court in Moscow backed Russian Justice Ministry claims that the Church of Scientology did not comply with federal law, as it used its trademark for financial gain. "The representatives of the Church of Scientology have created many legal conflicts by themselves by restricting the religious freedom through the use of trademarks," the Ministry of Justice said. The Church vowed to appeal, but a high-profile incident has...

Pro-life protesters faced a disturbing scene this weekend in Michigan when a group of Satanists arrived to counter-protest wearing baby masks and carrying whips. Citizens for a Pro-Life Society organized a protest outside of the Detroit Planned Parenthood abortion clinic on Saturday as part of a larger #ProtestPP movement to expose the abortion giant’s deadly trade of aborting unborn babies and trafficking their body parts. During the pro-life event, a local Satanist group arrived and conducted a disturbingly grotesque counter-protest. Some of the Satanists dressed in masks and diapers to look like babies, while others dressed in black, carried whips...

Tammuz vs Jesus The ancient Sumerian deity Tammuz, or Dumuzi, has been thrown around a bit as a possible source for Christian belief by copycatters, but with little in the way of specifics. One critic refers to Tammuz as "the savior god worshipped in Jerusalem" [107 -- though they never say what he saved people from, or how he was a savior], as the "savior/fertility sun god who annually died and was resurrected" [138 -- we'll look into this claim below]; and uses word games to hint that he is represented by the Apostle Thomas [172 -- though this point...

Pro-life Christians who were praying peacefully outside of a Michigan abortion clinic on Good Friday faced mockery as they remembered Jesus’ death on the cross. The Pro-Life Action League organized the peaceful prayer vigil outside the Ann Arbor Planned Parenthood and 70 other abortion clinics across the country on Friday to remember the innocent lives of unborn children lost to abortion and Jesus’ crucifixion. The group compared Jesus’s suffering and horrific death on the cross to the suffering that unborn babies experience every day inside the nation’s abortion clinics. The Michigan pro-lifers faced a much more hostile environment than many...

A British father has been banned from taking his son to a church after the boy's Muslim mother won a controversial court order preventing the boy from attending. The father – a non-practising Muslim who has forged close connections to his local Christian community and is divorced from the boy's mother – has been warned that he could be denied access to the nine-year-old if he attempts to take him to church or to a leisure centre it runs. Now the father, who was born in the UK to Pakistani parents, is challenging the ruling made by District Judge Williscroft...

PHOENIX (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Phoenix city council is reinstating prayer before meetings, and the Satanic Temple is threatening to fight back. After discovering in February that members of the local chapter of the Satanic Temple were scheduled to perform an invocation as part of the city council's tradition of opening meetings with prayer, members of the council voted to do away with the practice altogether, consequently revoking the satanists' invitation. Following a new vote last week, the council is restoring the tradition, but with restrictions limiting the delivery of the opening prayer to "Phoenix Police or Fire Department chaplains only."...
