An armed man angry because he wasn’t allowed inside a New Jersey jiggle joint Christmas morning opened fire, killing three men — including the bouncer — and wounding two others, officials said. The man tried to enter Slick’s GoGo Bar in Irvington with his gun, but was stopped by a bouncer after he was patted down and the weapon was found around 12:45 a.m., according to officials and reports.

The shooting happened outside Slick's Go-Go Bar, in Irvington, N.J., at 12.45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office told NBC News. The prosecutor's office identified two of the victims as Pierre Clervoyant Jr., 34, the son of the club's owner, and Woodley Daniel, 32, an employee of the club.

Carjackers shot and killed a man in front of his horrified wife Sunday in the parking structure of an upscale New Jersey mall. The 30-year-old victim was attacked by two thugs and shot in the head at The Mall at Short Hills in Millburn at around 9:10 p.m. “It was at least two gunshots. People started ducking and panicking,” Rick Ramos, who works at the mall’s California Pizza Kitchen, told The Post. “We had to barricade everyone inside. I could hear a woman screaming her head off. It was brutal. She was shrieking.”

New Jersey Sens Robert Menendez and Cory Booker will join activists in Washington, D.C., for a 24-hour fast in support of immigration reform. “I’m sure that there are those who said, when Dr. King led marches and boycotts, that that was extreme and not herding the cause of movement to civil rights. I’m sure that there are those who considered Rosa Parks’ defiance in sitting in the front of the bus and not the back of the bus not productive,” Menendez said in a video posted Wednesday from the fast. “So history teaches us that while we would love to...
  • AP: NJ City to Quiz Gun Vendors on Safety Issues

12/11/2013 3:04:52 PM PST · by Red in Blue PA · 23 replies
New Jersey's second-largest city is adopting a novel approach to gun control by requiring weapons-makers bidding on municipal contracts to answer questions about their positions on gun safety issues. Jersey City, a city of 250,000 across the Hudson River from Manhattan, is believed to be the first U.S. municipality to incorporate social responsibility questions into public contract bids. Mayor Steven Fulop says he wants municipalities to use their purchasing power to influence America's gun-safety conversation. The bid specification going out Wednesday — for roughly $200,000 worth of guns and $150,000 in ammunition — includes six questions measuring vendors' gun safety...

Immigrant Rights Advocates Protest At Elizabeth Detention Center ELIZABETH, NJ - DECEMBER 10: Protesters block the entrance of an immigrant detention center on December 10, 2013 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. A coalition of immigrant advocacy groups marked international Human Rights Day, staging the civil disobedience action at the Elizabeth Detention Center, and eight protesters were arrested by police. Organizers said the event was designed to draw attention to the continued mass deportations of undocumented immigrants by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as Congress' inability to pass immigration reform. The Obama administration is on track to have removed...

Elizabeth, NJ – December 10th, 2013 During the week that Congress will close for 2013 without having passed an immigration reform bill, a group of Jersey residents locked themselves together in the street that serves as an entrance to the Elizabeth Detention Center (625 Evans St.) to protest the President’s deportation arbitrary quota policy and call on him to stop removals and expand deferred action instead. “We can’t let more families to be separated. We can’t wait for Congress. After what I saw my family go through I want to help other families that are in the same situation,” explains...

Dayna Morales, 22, was finally canned from Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater — nearly a month after she made national headlines over what’s likely a hoax. (snip) “She exaggerated every story,” former coworker Julie Howat told The Post. “I knew [the receipt] was fake. When the articles came out, everyone at my job laughed.”

Last year, the city of Camden decided to can its unionized police force in favor of ununionized county cops who hit the streets this April. ... The city has been run exclusively by Democrats for several generations, and some local leaders openly worried that Camden, which already had the highest crime rate per capita last year, would get worse. But it hasn’t. In fact, crime’s gone down

Camden, New Jersey dumped its unionized police force last spring, unable to afford the lucrative union contract the city was stuck with, and instead contracted for police services with the nonunion county force. Crime promptly dropped. Ed Krayewski reports for Reason: The city has been run exclusively by Democrats for several generations, and some local leaders openly worried that Camden, which already had the highest crime rate per capita last year, would get worse. But it hasn't. In fact, crime's gone down, as Fox News Latino reports: The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting...

New Jersey began allowing Internet gambling on Tuesday in a much-watched bet that there are untapped sources of revenue on bedside iPads and cubicle desktops, and even among people checking their phones while they wait in line for coffee. Gambling analysts say it is the most significant development since casinos opened in Atlantic City over three decades ago, ultimately setting off what became a furious competition among states for a share of the take.

If the last two presidential elections tell us anything, it’s that Republicans don’t succeed with candidates who lack clear vision and conviction consistent with the party’s conservative platform. Given this, I understand why Democrats think that New Jersey governor Chris Christie should be a leading contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. But why would any Republican see a typical political operative like Christie as presidential material? With the information we have in front of us today, there is every reason to believe that 2016 will be a year of opportunity for Republicans to run a serious and exciting reform-minded...

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), fresh off a landslide reelection win and seemingly with an eye on the 2016 presidential race, spent Thursday trying to oust a longtime Republican ally from power. Christie and his staff lobbied Republican state senators to dump their leader, Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr., after three terms atop the GOP conference. At least four Republican senators paraded through Christie’s office Thursday morning to get the hard sell. ... Christie appeared to defer to Democrat Sweeney too, angering some in Kean’s camp. In the days before the election, when Christie turned his attention to...

**SNIP** Nearly 800,000 New Jersey residents’ health-care plans will not longer exist in 2014, forcing insurers to create new ones for individuals and small business owners that hew to the Obamacare’s new regulations, The New Jersey Star Ledger found in early October. “I don’t feel like I need to change, but I have to,” Jeff Learned, a television editor in Los Angeles, told Kaiser Health News. Learned now needs to scramble to find a plan to coverage his teenage daughter, whose health problems have required several surgeries. I’m a little surprised, even though he’s undoubtedly correct that the appeal was doomed. The New Jersey Supreme Court all but legalized gay marriage in its provisional ruling on Friday; a final ruling next year upholding that judgment was a fait accompli. But as we spent the last three weeks discovering, the fact that a fight is obviously unwinnable and possibly self-defeating from the start is no excuse not to undertake it. Gov. Chris Christie announced today that he was dropping the fight against same-sex marriage in New Jersey by withdrawing his his appeal of a major case that was being...

In the wake of the government shutdown, despite provisions in the Pay Our Military Act, Catholics at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia are being denied religious services. The Catholic priest who serves this community has been prohibited from even volunteering to celebrate Holy Mass without pay, and was told that if he violated that order, he could be subject to arrest. Protestant services continue to take place. Only Catholic services have been shutdown. This is an astonishing attack on religious freedom by the federal government, and the latest affront towards the military since the beginning of the shutdown....

**SNIP** On Saturday, Palin told a rally at the New Egypt Speedway that Lonegan, a former mayor, would fight against ObamaCare and stand with Tea Party senators including Ted Cruz of Texas. "You have the momentum with Steve's campaign," she said. "The rest of the country knows." The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate and former Alaska governor told the crowd to vote to defy the "fallacy" that a conservative Tea Party candidate cannot win in a Democratic-leaning New Jersey. Lonegan, who spent the weekend campaigning across the state, wants to repeal ObamaCare and "join those conservatives who stand up for...
