New Jersey Sens Robert Menendez and Cory Booker will join activists in Washington, D.C., for a 24-hour fast in support of immigration reform.
Im sure that there are those who said, when Dr. King led marches and boycotts, that that was extreme and not herding the cause of movement to civil rights. Im sure that there are those who considered Rosa Parks defiance in sitting in the front of the bus and not the back of the bus not productive, Menendez said in a video posted Wednesday from the fast. So history teaches us that while we would love to have a government that is responsive to us in the normal course of events, that sometimes a normal course of events isnt enough to accomplish the goal.
The Fast for Families activists began a sit-in on the National Mall last month in hopes to urge Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the new year.
Menendez and Booker are not the first D.C. leaders to join the group of fasters. Freshman Congressman Joe Kennedy III joined Medina and the activists last week, and President Obama and the first lady visited the tent the day after Thanksgiving.
When we began this fast on Nov. 12, we did it because we wanted to call attention to a moral crisis that is facing this country, said Eliseo Medina of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of four activists who participated in a 22-day long water-only fast, during a conference call last week. This broken immigration system is more than a debate about numbers
At its core, its about human beings.

They both can stand to lose a few calories........................
In the Dominican Republic?
Let ‘em starve.
I remember several years ago, while in jail, Sharpton staged a “fast”. Well, actually a tag-team fast. He would go without eating for a couple of hours and then “tag out” to get something to eat.
That’ll take a while................
Another question I have is when these illegals get sick from not eating & take off for the hospital. Are the taxpayers paying for all their medical services free of charge ?
Working directly with illegal aliens warrants expulsion.
In the past, Senators were able to bring national attention to issues they cared about by holding filibusters. However, thanks to Democrats like Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, the Senate filibuster has been eliminated and those two worthies must now starve themselves to get press coverage.
But since going without food for a mere 24 hours is not a major accomplishment, will they extend their fast until they’re actually making a genuine sacrifice?
And where are the other 50-plus Senate Democrats who also claim to be passionate about immigration reform? Why don’t they too join the fast? Apparently, they can’t tear themselves away from their fancy restaurants for even a single day to help the cause of the poor, dispossessed immigrants they’ve spent so many public hours crying crocodile tears over.
Hunger strike till they starve is really okay.
I hope they have the fortitude to stay on that fast.
It really reminds me of the scene from Blazing Saddles.
Let 'em die.
Both can't make it three days...on a true fast...
I fasted once for 10 days for a spiritual reason...
It was a very interesting experience...
Here’s one of their constituents who’s hoping they both starve to death.....
